"Hey, Dad!" I broke out into a small smile and hugged him. He held onto me tight. I pulled back with a happy, yet confusing look. "Nice to see you, but.. Why are you here?" He cast a look at Adam and Eugene, who were on either side of me.
"I'm on a business trip," he explained. My smile fell.
"Yeah, well, this is where I work," I laughed nervously. Having my father here was lovely, sure, considering I haven't seen him since my mother's funeral. I've been in a lot of drama lately, with Alyssa and Eugene and all, and I don't want him to get involved, but it's not like I can tell him to go back to San Francisco.
"So, who are these two?" Dad asked, eyeing Eugene and Adam. My eyes widened and I quickly opened my mouth to introduce them, but Adam was already on it.
"I'm Adam Gray, sir," Adam introduced himself. "I just met your daughter today. She's very skilled in what she does. Did you teach her?" A grin surfaced on my, and my father's, face. Either he knows my father loves compliments, or he went on a whim. I bit back a laugh when my father put a hand on his chest proudly.
"I didn't teach her, but that's just it," he bragged proudly. "She learns everything on her own. She's so independent." I flushed in embarrassment as my dad went on about my accomplishments. Adam only looked at me, a cheesy grin on his face. He seemed to be enjoying my helpless and embarrassed face. My dad eventually turned to Eugene. "And who are you?"
"Uh, Eugene Lee Yang, sir.." He murmured in hesitation. Adam stood beside me. My dad raised an eyebrow.
"Nice to meet you, Eugene," he said strangely. Dad turned to me and gave me one last hug. "I'd love to stay, honey, but I've gotta go sign in my hotel. I'll call you later, okay?"
"'Kay," I said. "Love ya." He left the Buzzfeed building, and I sighed in relief. At least he wouldn't have to talk about my 'accomplishments' anymore. Adam laughed when he was sure my dad was gone.
"Your dad's a proud guy, ain't he?"
"Shut up," I mumbled, my cheeks a dark red. Eugene looked at me and smiled, but it was an uncomfortable and sorry smile.
"Hey, Levi," he sighed, "I'm sorry about Alyssa. She was out of line." I scratched the back of my head.
"It's okay," I murmured. "It's not your fault. She's just bat-shit crazy." He laughed, and I smiled. He hadn't been smiling like that when my dad was here. He must have been intimidated. Adam looked at me, his eyes wide.
"Was that the girl you ranted about?" He asked quietly. I nodded, and he held back a laugh. "Alright, I gotta admit, she looks like a bitch." I laughed. Eugene sighed and gave me a forced smile before waving and leaving me alone with Adam. I said my goodbyes to Adam and went to the cafeteria, where I met with Sara.
"Yo," she said, eating a doughnut for lunch. I snorted and got a Dr. Pepper and sat with her. "Something wrong? You usually eat." I rolled my eyes.
"Thanks," I said sarcastically. I shook my head and gave her a serious look. "Sara, you'll hear me out, right?"
"Sure, you're my best friend," she said with a smile. I took a deep breath and told her everything. About Alyssa in love, Eugene passing her off, Adam, my dad, EVERYTHING. When I was done, her eyes were wide in curiosity and interest. "But I thought Alyssa warned you about Eugene."
"That's what she did!" I exclaimed, earning a few dirty looks. "I don't know what's going on with her. She's, like, a pathological liar. It kinda freaks me out." She nodded in agreement.
"Also, about Adam," Sara grinned. "Eugene is totally jealous, by the way you describe him." My cheeks brightened.
"W-Whaaa?" I waved her off. "No way. He doesn't like me like that."
