After that, the days seemed to pass without incident, although Sasuke had to go on this ridiculous C rank mission: escort the master bridge builder to his village, then protect him until the bridge is finished. Both Sasuke and Naruto knew that it couldn't be just a regular C rank mission due to where team 7 had to escort the bridge builder, but Sasuke had decided to not bring it up when they received the mission. Anything was better than those chores! So that's where Sasuke was at the moment: on a mission that would take somewhere between a month to two months to complete, leaving Naruto alone in the village to train under Kurama for a while.
"So NOW you're going to train me?" Naruto asked Kurama, somewhat annoyed.
"Kit, you've been busy training with Sasuke so I didn't exactly have a chance. Plus, what you guys were doing was just fine so I decided to let you be and only offer instruction occasionally," replied Kurama.
"Whatever. Let's just get on with it," Naruto sighed.
~with Sasuke and team 7~
Sasuke, his teammates, and the bridge builder were walking down the weathered trail, Takumi and Sakura talking with the bridge builder in the front while Sasuke and Kakashi were silently walking in the back.
Kakashi glanced at Sasuke and remembered something from a few days back.
~flashback~
"Kakashi-sempai, I need to ask you something."
"How may I help you, Tenzo?"
"I know you're currently acting as a jonin sensei, so I need your help identifying a ninja I suspect is a genin."
"You don't know if they're a genin or not?"
"It was pretty dark and shadowy, plus I never got his name. In fact, I only know he's a ninja because he pointed out his headband."
"Can you describe him?"
"A boy, approximately 13 years old, wearing a dark, maybe black shirt and white shorts, black hair that spikes up and out in the back."
Kakashi sighed. "Yes, I know him."
"You do? Personally?" Tenzo asked.
"That's correct. That, my friend, was Sasuke Uchiha, one of the genin on my team. May I ask why you're so curious about him?"
"He's a genin?! Kakashi, he's good enough to sneak up on me! He DID sneak up on me!"
Kakashi raised his eyebrow. "Oh?"
"Kakashi, could you keep an eye on him when you're on missions as a team? I'd like your assessment on his skills."
"And what skills in particular should I look out for?"
"Anything... ANBU, especially when it comes to stealth."
Kakashi's eyebrow seemed to get higher, if that was even possible. "I guess it wouldn't hurt. Anything else while I'm at it?"
Tenzo sighed in relief. "That should be all for now. Thanks, Kakashi-sempai, for your help."
Kakashi smiled. "Not a problem, I'm glad to help."
~end of flashback~
So far, Kakashi didn't see anything out of the ordinary, but you never know.
Looking at the trail, Sasuke noticed a puddle. 'A puddle? On this clear day? Now, that isn't suspicious at ALL.'
Sasuke glanced at Kakashi out of the corner of his eye and saw that he'd seen it too. Sasuke nodded to himself. 'If something attacks, we'll be fine.'
