Saying that Hinata Hyuga was nervous would be like saying Jiraiya of the Sanin was just a little perverted: an understatement. Being able to talk face to face with her crush after just over two years had her more nervous than she'd been since Naruto's thirteenth birthday. She just hoped her father didn't notice her unease. However, fate, as her dear cousin would say, wasn't on her side.

"Hinata, if you're nervous about meeting the two new clan heads, don't be. You used to be classmates with them," Hiashi Hyuga stoically informed his oldest daughter as they were walking down the street on their way to the monthly clan heir gathering. The Hokage had decided a few years back that the heirs to the different clans should be able to get to know each other before they become the heads of their clans, further strengthening the relationships between the clans, which then lead to the creation of the monthly clan heir gathering.

This time, however, was different. The current heads were all attending this months gathering, too, and it was all because of the two newest heads also being about the same age as many of the future clan heads and didn't have any heirs of their own to send. All the clan heads figured it would be a good opportunity to get to know the future heads of the clans and cover all their bases; besides, they still had to get to know the Uchiha and Namikaze-Uzumaki heads, Naruto and Sasuke.

"It's not that, father, I'm just not used to having all the other current clan heads around at the same time," Hinata half fibbed. While she was nervous about that, too, she wasn't sure how her father would react to her crush on the young "blind" blond. Yes, Hinata knew Naruto wasn't actually blind. In fact, she also knew he was in the ANBU, though she didn't know which ANBU operative he was. Of course, she hadn't told a single soul. She even didn't write anything about any of it in her diary for fear that someone, namely her sister, would read it and find out the secret that Naruto had worked so hard to keep. She also suspected he knew she knew, but she couldn't be sure. All she did know was after the sixth or seventh time she spied on him, he started being really careful what he said and did, though after about the fourteenth time, he seemingly started to relax a tiny bit more.

Over all, she had no idea how this meeting would go or how she would be able to keep Naruto's secret with him and all the other clan heads in the same room. She seriously hoped she would remember all the lessons on composure that had been drilled into her after she'd managed to convince her father and the clan elders of her worthiness to be the heir of the Hyuga clan two years ago.

Of course he would have to attend a meeting with his former classmates, and of course their parents would be there, too. It was just his luck that his time in the academy was spent with many of the children of the clan heads, and many of them were the heirs.

He was going to have a hard time keeping his cover around his old classmates. Yeah, life sucked sometimes.

~At the Clan Heir Social~

The monthly clan heir social had always been something strange to observe, seeing how there was a wide age range, from young academy students to young adults, even some odd thirty year olds here and there. But this month's gathering definitely took the cake.

This month, the ages of those in attendance ranged from young toddlers to the elderly, as many of the clan heads and their immediate family members were also attending, and it all had to do with two teens. Two teenage clan heads, to be exact.

Two teenage clan heads who were half an hour late.

'Kakashi, please tell me the reason you've been on time for more and more meetings as of late is not because you passed on your bad habits to Naruto and Sasuke,' thought the twice retired former Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi as he watched the fourteen, fifteen, and sixteen year old clan heirs talk amongst themselves in nervous anticipation.
