 PRECAP:

Miranda gets a message from M that he will arrive on the 28th which is followed by her finding out that the guys who want to steal the necklace from her are planning to send their own guy before him so that she will trust him and give it to him ‘cause she hasn’t seen M ever before. She then receives another text from a different (probably the same as she has deleted the previous one because he usually changed numbers quickly and there wasn’t a point in saving it) number which is supposedly from M who tells her he is coming on the 24th now because the people who are after the necklace know about his arrival on 28th. She immediately connects the dots and thinks that it was from the guy the bad guys are thinking about sending (remember she still doesn’t know who they work for so she just lamely refers to them as big bulky guys, bozos or goons) and decides that she is not going to trust him and hand the necklace over. Later on she hears a conversation between two goons who are outside her cabin while she is inside hiding from them. One of them wants to inspect the house (Luke) and other one tells her that they just have to be patient for two more weeks.

 CHAPTER 12:

I woke up to an empty room, again. Seriously, I need to put more alarms. I got ready as fast as I could. While struggling to get my sneakers on, I checked the time on my watch. I still had twenty minutes to stuff my tummy so I rushed to the cafeteria. When I reached it all the talking seized and all eyes were on me. Did I forget to wear my pants or something? I looked down to check. Nope, I was wearing my white Capri’s and a blue tank top. I wasn’t even bare footed! So why were people staring at me?  I felt uncomfortable and started fixing my shirt when I saw my friends coming out of the kitchen with a big cake. I frowned. When they approached me, everyone started singing the birthday song for me. Damn! I’d been so busy with protecting the necklace that I forgot it was my birthday today. It was the twenty-fourth today which means… My trail of thoughts was interrupted by Jane’s hug. “Happy birthday, Miranda!” she squealed in my ear.

“Yeah, I am right here.” I joked while covering my ears which earned me a slap on my arm. I was then hugged by Savannah which was followed by the cutting of the cake. After I had cut and served everyone the cake, I took a piece for myself in a paper plate and headed towards the stall to get breakfast. When I reached it, someone tapped my shoulder and I turned around to look who it was. It was a boy of probably my age with black eyes and black hair and a strong, athletic built for a teen. I narrowed my eyes. His face looked strangely familiar but I was sure I had never seen him here before. He saw the query in my eyes and answered it by saying, “Hi, I’m Mason Farrell as in ‘M’ and I’m here to get the necklace back.”

I smirked and replied with a raised eyebrow, “Really now?”

He narrowed his eyes at my reply. “I thought I messaged you I was coming?”

“Yes, yes you did.” I said out loud while thinking ‘But I also know you’re not M, you’re one of them.’

“You don’t believe me.” It was a statement rather than a question like he was telling himself that.
