CHAPTER 3
The cafeteria was a two story building, filled with wooden tables and benches. The door with the sign saying “kitchen” was on the opposite side of the entrance. There was a serving table at the left corner and stairs that lead to the second floor, to the right. There was a glass podium in the centre and a small speaker on each of the corners. A man of average built entered the cafeteria who I supposed was Mr. Delano. My theory was proved right when he introduced himself later. He had wrinkles all over his face and greying hair which showed that he must be in his late forties or early fifties. He walked over to the glass podium.
“Welcome all of you! I am Robert Delano, your head of Camp Activities,” he began, “I promise you all that these two months will be the best of your life,” he was interrupted by whistles and hooting of the campers, “But there are some rules,” everyone groaned. “I know, I know! Its summer there shouldn’t be any rules but we are away from civilization so you need to follow them to live. Firstly, nobody is allowed to go beyond camp areas unsupervised. I know if I put it as a rule it makes it more tempting to break it but it’s your life. Secondly, lights out by eleven. That won’t be so hard ’cause the activities can get tiring. So enjoy your stay! You’ll be given your cabin keys and schedules on your way out. Your activities wouldn’t start till tomorrow so you guys can look around and have fun.” With that he started towards the left where all the teachers were.
“This place is dangerous?” Savannah asked.
“Well it’s in the middle of a forest, what do you expect?” Jane answered. Savannah looked worried.
“Hey relax! They must have done arrangements for our safety and our parents allowed us to come here so I guess it must be safe here,” I said reassuringly.
“Hmm… I guess you’re right.”
We started forming a line to get our schedules after that. We had breakfast from eight to nine, I had botany after that. Wait, what the hell? Botany? On camp! Ugh! “What is this?” I pointed to my schedule. “We have to study botany?”
“Yeah, it’s part of the camp deal. You need to know about the wild plants around you and it’s kind of why your mom agreed.” Jane answered.
I groaned. I should have known. Well other than that educating and horrible subject we had some fun subjects too. I had arts, taekwondo, jazz dancing, pottery and trekking as well. All activities ended way before dinner so we could do whatever we wanted during those hours.
“So, what’s our cabin number?” I inquired.
“Three! Let’s go find it!” Savannah answered too eagerly. So we headed to find our cabin and it took us at least fifteen minutes to actually find it. Savannah unlocked it and after looking around it she said, “Tada! Cabin, sweet cabin!”
The cabin was quite spacious with two single beds on the right side and one on the left. Every bed was accompanied by a bedside table which had a lamp placed on it. Beside the left bed was the dressing table and the washroom was on the opposite side of the entrance.
“Dibs on the left bed!” I squealed.
“Hey, not fair!” they both groaned. After arguing for half an hour over it, they finally let me have it.
