                                                           Prologue

If you were to find out something you had been waiting for your whole life, would you go to extreme measures to find out? What if it means to risk your life?

I had to decide… on one hand I could stay in complete darkness but safe and on the other I could find out the truth. It was a tough choice to make. And I finally decided to go with the latter choice. But it meant dragging my life into grave danger.

“Hey! Ouch! Watch it!” I said to the guy I bumped into.

“I’m sorry!” he replied, “I was in a hurry! Here let me help you up.” he offered me his hand.

I took it to get up.

“Thanks.”

“No problem”

I began to dust off my clothes when I saw the mark on his arm. It was the same kind I had on my hand.

“Hey! I have a mark on my arm just like yours!”

I held out my arm for him to see.

“So you’re the one?” his tone was as if he was asking himself.

“Excuse me?”

“Oh, I’m sorry you wouldn’t know anything about that, would you?”

I stared at him blankly.

“I have finally found you. Wow the others would be psyched to meet you!”

“I have no clue what you’re talking about. What others? Do you know what these initials stand for?” I inquired. Finally I think I found someone who could answer the question I longed for.

“Yes, I’ll tell you everything you want to find out. These initials are actually…”

He was interrupted by a voice calling out my name.

“Please tell me! I’ve waited a hell lot for this!”

“They are your…”

He was again disturbed by that voice. I recognized that voice. It was my friend Jane’s. But I couldn’t see her anywhere. She called out to me again but I still couldn’t see her. When I looked back the boy was moving away.

“No! Don’t go!” I called out to him.

Everything seemed to vanish. All of a sudden it got dark. Oh shit! Not again… I thought to myself.

“Wake up already! Come on!”

I opened my eyes. There she was, Jane, the one who interrupted my dream.

“What? You ruined my dream!” I was infuriated. I’d had that dream for about a week now. It always ended there for some reason or the other. It was annoying. How come that guy knew about that mark or whatever it is? What others was he talking about? It was the same guy again and again… he was tall, about normal physique. He had the same mark on his hand as I did. At the same place. I was completely sure I had never seen him before. Was it all in my mind or was there some connection?

I’d gone through this many times. I’d lost all hope to find out what it was. My parents knew nothing about it. They couldn’t even see it. Nobody could. I tried for years. People thought I was either fooling them or was delusional.

Maybe this guy could tell me what it was…

My thoughts were interrupted by my other friend, Savannah, “Get up, Miranda!”

They both pushed me off the bed. What the hell!

“Are you guys mad?”

“Yup!” they both said in unison. “Now get dressed. We’ve got great news,” Jane said.

“What news? I’m sleepy.” I yawned.

Savannah threw a pillow at me which I carefully dodged.

“Okay okay! I’m getting ready.” I made my way to the washroom. “We’ll wait for you downstairs hurry up.”

I wondered what they were so excited about. I got dressed quickly and went down.

They were sitting in the hall. They looked quite excited.

“So what’s the great news?”

“We’re going camping!”

“Cool right?”

WOW! camping! So cool! i so wanted to go but my mom aka Jenny ALvares wouldn't let that happen. She is the weird combo of the most sweetest yet the most strict mother there can be ( you know what i mean? ;) ).

So sadly i replied, “Yeah, totally but I can’t. My mom won’t agree.”

“Oh that’s been taken cared of!”

“And how is that?” i asked. Shock was clearly displayed on my face.

“It was easier than we thought.”

“Oh cool. Where is it?”

“Well it is a few kilometres away from Karachi.”

“Cool man!”

“Yeah! It’s like totally educational! They have these general knowledge courses and stuff about wildlife and shit so your mom agreed to it. And oh yeah! We signed you up for martial arts too!” she stuck her tongue out.

“Thanks man!”

I always wanted to learn self-defense. These days it’s quite necessary.

“So when do we start?” I asked. Summer vacation started a few days ago so it should start soon.

“Oh it starts next week. Now come on we got to go shopping.” She squealed.

“Ugh!” I hated shopping, especially with these two. But I agreed reluctantly.

The whole time we were shopping I was thinking about the dream. I’ve been having the same dream everyday of the last week. It made a part of me hopeful but the bigger and the logical part was still considering it as a figment of my imagination. Oh how I hope that boy was real and would meet me soon.
