CHAPTER 4

After my encounter with that boy, I couldn’t seem to think about anything else. Who was he? How come he had those? The encounter was just like the dream I had today, he was as clueless as that boy. If that dream wasn’t just a figment of my imagination, could the other one be true too? My mind was filled with these questions and I couldn’t concentrate on my botany class. Not that I have any interest in it but still it would be nice to know about the dangerous plants around this area.

I tried to pay attention in class again but my thoughts kept drifting to that boy. Maybe I’m not as crazy as I thought I was. There is another person who could see my marks too and to top it off he has them as well. It’s my first day of camp and I already met someone who can see it. Maybe I’ll meet some other people who could see these too.

I sighed and looked around the room. He was staring back at me but with curious eyes.

“This is so boring,” Jane said. She was sitting beside me. That means she might have seen me looking at him. Oops.

“So what are you thinking?” she asked curiously.

“Huh? Nothing, just how boring plants can be,” I lied again. I have been doing that a lot lately. I have never lied to her before. But I guess she won’t be able to understand it.

“Dude, you spaced out! Tel me what you’re thinking!” she hissed. The teacher heard her and her to be quiet.

‘I’ll tell you later’ I mouthed.

Jane nodded her head. From the corner of my eye, I noticed that Savannah was listening to our conversation intently. Thankfully they weren’t in the rest of my classes. That boy was in my taekwondo class but we were paired up separately so we didn’t get a chance to talk. I was so distracted that I didn’t learn a single thing the teacher was telling. By lunch time, I couldn’t control my nerves. When the bell rang, I all but ran towards the secluded area I told him to meet me. I waited for a few seconds (which seemed like an eternity due to my nerves) before he came. He was scowling at nothing in particular. When he reached me he directly got to the point

“So how come you can see these?” he said.

‘Rude much?’ I thought but I said, “Nice to meet you too! I’m Miranda Alvares!” I said while smiling sweetly.

“Sorry, I’m Kadon McCartney,” he said while holding his out for me.

I shook it and said, “I can’t believe I finally met someone who can see this.” I held out my hand so he could see I had the ‘invisible’ marks too. “Do you have any idea what these mean?” we were both inspecting each other’s arms then. I was wearing a three-quarter sleeved shirt so I pulled the sleeve back till it was just above my elbow. We both had ‘Rhabdonia’ imprinted on our fore-arms. He even had the same ‘R’ on his hand followed by ‘K’ and an ‘M’. He was wearing a sleeveless shirt so I could see the mark on his hind arm as well. It was a crescent with a little Chinese dragon engraved on it.

He looked up and replied, “I just know that the letters on my hand are my initials and this ‘R’,” he said while pointing towards his hand, “looks like this one.” He then pointed towards the forearm. He was right. The ‘R’ did resemble the ‘R’ of Rhabdonia. That was all I had guessed anyway.

“You are Kadon McCartney hence ‘K” and ‘M’ but I’m Miranda Alvares so should I have ‘M’ ‘A’?”

He just shrugged. Then he replied, “I don’t know maybe for you it could be different. My parents have their initials imprinted on their hands too.”
