CHAPTER 14:

It was hard to trust this Max guy. He had that aura around him which screamed “Danger-Keep Out”. I tried to convince myself that he was the right guy from what I’d heard while eavesdropping on those goons but he made it tough by showing too much interest in the necklace. It was weird how he always kept asking me to give him the necklace so he could keep it somewhere safe whereas Mason was laid back about it (he was convinced the necklace was safer with me). Max tried to convince me that if I took it off he’ll tell me all I want and that I’ll be out of danger whereas Mason never brought the subject out on his own. They both didn’t like each other and I convinced them that I knew the other was the bad guy.

“Hey Miranda, I need to discuss something with you. Can you meet me behind the cafeteria after lunch?” Max asked.

‘What does he want?’ I thought grumpily. Don’t judge me but these two ‘M’s were getting to my head. I can’t sleep all night since his arrival (which was last week) as I keep thinking which of the two of them is telling the truth.

“Sure,” I replied with a forced smile. He returned a smile but his looked sincere and then he left for his classes.

I then proceeded to my own class and sat down in botany. 3 hours before I find out what Max wants to tell me. This was the most boring class ever! The only thing I like about this class is the field study (in the woods-they won’t take us somewhere else) and that only happened once a week. I couldn’t bear the Mrs. Benjamin’s (our botany teacher) lecture and my eyes were getting droopy. Before I knew it, I was out like the light.

I began dreaming about pulled in two directions. “No she’s mine! I came here first!” the person pulling my left arm said whiling tugging harder on it. “I don’t care! She’s mine!” the one pulling my right arm said.

“Mine.”

“Mine!”

“NO!”

“You can’t do that! I’m taking her!”

“I won’t let you!”

The two people argued while pulling me in their respective directions. My arms were starting to hurt and I didn’t know what to do. I couldn’t even speak. I tried to but no words came out. What is going on?!

“Miranda!” somebody shouted from somewhere. It sounded like a girl.

“Miranda!” it shouted again. I wanted to scream ‘I’m here! Please save me before I lose a limb!’ but I couldn’t find my voice.

“Miranda, get up already!” Huh? What does she mean? Something then hit my head and I woke up. the bright light hurting my eyes.

“What? What?” I asked frantically.

“You were snoozing in the class again,” Jane replied. She was sitting beside me with a scowl on her face. I looked around then and I saw most of the room was empty. The class finally ended!

“Let’s go now or we’ll be late for our next class.”

I picked up my books and headed for the next class. Seriously, what was up with that dream?
