Chapter 6

I decided to help that man and I can’t go back now. I’m screwed. Putting aside all the miserable thoughts, I decided to go for a run. When I wore my running shoes Savannah asked me why I was going running instead of having breakfast.

“It’s such a great day. I feel like going for a run.”

“Okay hurry up! You missed breakfast yesterday too. You aren’t making this a habit are you?”

I laughed and replied, “You know how much I eat. I can’t make it a habit.” I winked and left.

I ran for two reasons today. One was to clear my head and the other to get into shape. The thing that I’m wearing, it can cause some serious trouble for me and I need to be prepared. So running was the best exercise that I could think of as it helps me get some to reflect. My head hadn’t still wrapped around all the things that had faced here. First, I meet a random boy who can see these marks and how do I meet him? Just like my dream. The other dream I was having for a while now finally stopped. Why? I have no clue and then I get a letter and pendant from some strange person. I hadn’t even considered the fact that what if he was the bad guy? What if I was one of them since I had the mark? Could he really see them or he overheard mine and Kevin’s conversation? But then how would that explain the whole engraving thing? And what language was it? I need to find out if they have any Wi-Fi connection here or maybe a PC that has some LAN connection. I doubt the Wi-Fi thing. I mean we are in the middle of nowhere and it wasn’t as helpful to search on the phone. The dude could be keeping tracks on it since he already has my number. How did he get that? Great I’m getting more confused. Since I’m already in this mess I would think less and do more. I need to practice! I need to get in shape and I need to focus on how to get information out of that dude. I took a deep breath and stopped. I looked around for the first time since I started running. I was out in the forest again. I groaned. Not again. It took me thirty minutes to get out of last one. What if I’m deeper in the forest this time? I didn’t even have my phone. This forest shouted DANGER and I was stuck in it without a phone! I’m sooo clever! Note the sarcasm people.

I looked around trying to find some way out. It just all looks the same. Why did I have to go on this run? It didn’t even clear my head like it did usually. Holding the pendant between my thumb and little finger like it was mentioned in the letter and elongated the material of the wire a little. It was enough for me to tug it in my shirt. I tried to keep an eye around to see if anybody was watching. When it was safely tugged in and only the wire around my neck was showing I began walking. I must be late for class. Maybe they will send someone to look for me. I’m in big trouble if I’m found by anyone. I kept walking till I heard the sound of running water. The river is away from the camp. That means I was going the opposite way. I turned on my heels and headed in the other way.

After a few minutes of walking, I stopped to see where I was. I heard a twig break then and I turned in that direction. All my senses were on high alert now. I heard another and another. Maybe it’s just an animal? I gulped. I heard voices then. These people don’t know I’m here. I turned around and was about to take my first step when someone said, “Hey little girl, where are you going?” I turned and gulped again before replying, “I’m Sorry. I got lost and I don’t know how to get back.” There were two guys. Both looked huge. They had a bulky and tall structure.

“Where are your parents?” the other guy asked. He was taller than the other by an inch or so and a scar over his right eye

I was tempted to lie that they were out in here looking for me somewhere but I blurted out the truth, “I’m here at camp. I decided to go for a run.”

“Didn’t they warn you that this forest is dangerous?”

I gulped and replied, “Yeah I lost track of where I was going.” I bit my lip.

“Come we’ll take you to your camp but if we see you in here again we won’t be so helpful,” the first guy asked. He looked more dangerous than the other one as he was bulkier. They began walking in the direction they came and expected me to follow and I did even though all the nerves in my body screamed otherwise.

“So this is the first time you got lost in here?” the bulkier one asked.  I nodded my head. “You know this forest doesn’t have any wild animals as such but the plants dangerous so you should watch where you’re going.”

“I will sir. Thank you for helping me out here.”

“It’s okay! But don’t do that again.”

“Yes sir.”

“What’s your name?”

“Mia,” for some reason I was having trouble lying to him. He frowned when he heard my name. Shit! Maybe he is one of the bad guys. He nodded his head like he was thinking something.

The wooden cabins finally came in view then and I practically ran towards it. I shouted, “Thank you” behind my back and headed for it.

“Remember our warning!” they shouted.

I ran backwards so I was facing them and saluted. They went in the forest then. And I ran aster towards my cabin. I quickly showered and changed and looked at my phone. It was almost eleven. I was in the forest for more than two and a half hours? Wow. I had twenty messages on my phone. Five from Savannah, two from Kevin and thirteen from Jane. Man I’m in trouble. Jane’s going to give me her big lecture now. I wore my shoes and headed for karate which will start in a few minutes. I quickly texted Jane and Savannah that I got lost but now I was fine, while walking towards my class. I met Kevin there. He hugged me when he saw me. Awkward! “Where were you? We were worried sick you know?”

I patted his back and replied, “I got lost I’m sorry! Won’t do it again ’Kay?”

He nodded while hugging me and then left as soon as he realised that I wasn’t hugging back.

“Sorry about that!” he said while smiling sheepishly.

I smiled and replied, “Its okay! No problem!”

“So class here’s what we’ll learn today…” the teacher began bringing us back to the reality.

I learned one lesson today: Never go for a run without your phone.
