The next morning, I woke up to my alarm clock. I checked the time and it was 6:00. I quickly got out of bed and fed Duke, who was still asleep. I still give him food so when he wakes up, he doesn't have to wait. I went back to my room and started getting ready. As I was getting read, I had flashbacks about last night. I felt bad for what I said, I felt so disappointed in myself because they didn't deserve getting yelled at. They already have enough on there plate and I'm pretty sure they don't need this. I was thinking of an apology speech when I checked the time. It was 6:45... Shoot! I had to get hurry to the bus. I finished putting on my make-up and checked myself in the mirror one more time. I smiled, I wore a red t-shirt with jeans and I curled my hair. Just for my first day of Office Aid with Mason! I picked up my backpacked and went downstairs. My dad was in the kitchen making breakfast.. Oh no. What if he still is mad.
I tried sneaking to the door but that was impossible with my heavy backpack carrying a lot of stuff that makes noise. And there's a small little window that connects the kitchen and the living room.
"Hello Jessica. Good morning"
My dad didn't even look at me, he just looked at his frozen bacon.
"Um good morning..dad" I said quietly. As I rushed to the door, my dad stopped me.
"You know.." My dad stood looking at me. "I think your mom and I deserved what you said. Don't feel bad because we stopped for the night. But if you ever yell at us ever again, I'll make sure.." My dad smiled. "That there's a reason why I was a champion at wrestling" my dad chuckled.
I nodded. "Yes sir"
Then I went out the door.
As I walked up to my bus stop, I saw May.
"Hey!" I ran up to her. "So are you going to say yes?!"
"Um" May smiled. "Good morning to you too"
"Oh right sorry! Good morning"
"That's better." May said delighted.
I noticed that she was happy so I assumed she's going to say yes.
"When are you going to say yes?"
"Since when did I say I was going to say yes." May said.
I was starting to get angry. "May you don't understand what this is. This is love and I know that you.."
"But that's the thing!" May rudely interrupted. "I do love him. I just never wanted to say, and don't you think I know this! Don't you think I'm aware of this!" She yelled.
I stared at her "Why would you not tell me?"
"Because I would have sounded like you around Mason. I would have sounded like a slut if I ever lost feelings for him and started having a crush on someone else"
"Honestly, I cannot believe you right now May! What's wrong with me and Mason?" I crossed my arms.
"Nothing!" May studdered. "It just gets annoying when.."
"Go on" I nudged. "Say it!"
"Are you being sassy with me?"
"Maybe I am!"
"Ugh you just don't know when to quit! Jessica, I am not going to fricken say yes!"
"Why the fuck not! Why would you say no if you like him! Why do you.." And then I stopped. I realized what I was doing. I was fighting with my best friend over a boy.
"Jessica, I'm sorry.."
"No" I interrupted, I looked at her. "I'm sorry, I forgot about our promise"
May nodded. "Our promise to never fight over boys."
I laughed. "That was in the 5th grade."
May didn't laugh but she was pleased that we stopped fighting. I was going to say something but I guess she knew I was going to say something so she interrupted me.
"Its okay Jessica. It's just another door closed for me" She shrugged.
I was about to disagree but the bus came and we had to get on. On the rest of the way to school we just sat right next to each other in silence. I had my arms crossed and she had her hands in her lap, staring at the window. As we got into the school, I saw Mason and and Rick together talking. I looked over my shoulder and I saw May staring at Rick. I could tell she was about to advance to Rick so I stopped her. "May Gonner, I swear if you go to Rick and deny him I will.."She interrupted me. " Gosh Jessica! Don't you ever mind your own business for once! I swear you're so nosy sometimes.."
The bell rang and all the students in the hallways were heading toward there classroom. I just stood there in shock, what she said to me actually hurt. I mean, we get into little fights like this but.. Am I really that nosy? Did I really get into her business like that? We're best friends and I'm used to knowing the stuff she knows, except this one time. There were so many questions I wanted to be answered but that was going to have to wait. I headed toward my English class, when I remembered. I had Office Aid!! I was so happy to see Mason so I quickly. As I got to the office, I saw Maddison leaning over the desk talking to Mason. What the hell was she doing here?
"Oh Jessica" Maddison said in disgust. "Who brought you here"
Mason coughed "I did"
"Hehe yeah" I said nervously. I couldn't stop staring at his gorgeous blue eyes. I saw Maddison rolling her eyes and then she left.
"Wow" I said as I put my back pack down.
Mason rolled his chair over to the side
"Here" he stood up. "You can have this one. I'm pretty sure there's another rolly chair I can use"
"Thanks!" I said in delight. As I pulled my chair to the front desk, I was getting ready to do.. Wait. What was I suppose to do?!
"Um.."
"Haha" Mason interrupted. "Don't worry, usually the superintendent makes us to errands and we help out. Other times we just sit here and wait for people to come to the office for help. Just like you did the yesterday.
"Wow, sounds fun" I said sarcastically.
I slumped my back in my chair and looked at Mason. Spending a whole hour with him is going to fun yet very awkward.
