I sat there, depressed and sad. I looked at May blankly as she talked about the necklace and how she got it from her sister. But I didn't care about that, I cared about my best friend being a secret cutter. Thoughts swarmed around me, emotions curl up inside me, and darkness overthrows me...
"Jessica?" May said as she interrupted my thoughts.
"Huh?!" I blinked my eyes. I looked at her.
"You were staring at the necklace for a long time"
"Oh I'm sorry" I looked down at my necklace again, the crested moon looked so beautiful.
"Look" May said as she was holding onto the necklace she was wearing. It was silver like mine, expect it was a sun. "These necklaces resembles our friendship. Without each other, things would fall apart." She smiled at me.
I didn't know what to do. She just stared at me, smiling. But deep inside I knew she was cutting... What could I have done? She was my best friend, we were close. But is she close enough to notice a fake smile? I didn't know what I had to do, so I did a stupid thing again. Run.
"Um hey, it's gettin late." I ran outside her room. "See you tomorrow. Thanks for the necklace, bye! Text me" I said.
Before May could say anything, I ran out the door.
Things couldn't have gotten worse than it had. Of course, it did. As I got home, my parents were home yelling at my brother. You see my brother,Brian, wants to marry this girl from church. Her name was Laura and she was cool. She would always help me with my questions and she would give me advice. Ever since Brian told Laura that he had feelings for her, they've been praying about it and after a year of praying they decided to get married. It was awesome because I couldn't wait to get a sister. But my parents went out of there minds because Brian was only 25. Honestly I think this is behind my moms brain because ya know, she's sick... She lets her emotions get the best of her and it affects the rest of the family as well.
"I'm 25! I can marry whoever I want!" Brian yelled.
"No. Not without your parent's blessing!" my mom yelled.
"Even with your blessing or not, I'm still going to marry Laura. Mom you don't understand..."
"Oh I think so. You can't just marry a girl just because you have feelings for each other. It takes years, and your not ready to get married!" My mom's face was red which really scared me.
"She's more than just a girl. She's going to be my future wife, and I've been praying about this for 2 years now. You can't possibly say that it takes years. I mean you met dad a week before you got married! You can't just say that out of the..."
"Brian Abraham Fiah" my mom strictly said as she interrupted him. "That was a damn arranged-marriage that my parents forced me to. You better close that mouth before I make you get an arranged-marriage... This isnt even God's Plan.."
"Don't say that it's not God's plan because I've been praying for a long time. This is what God has been telling me.."
"No!" My mom yelled. "Shut up just stop it! You are not marrying Laura!!"
Brian stepped back and noticed me in the corner. Then he looked back at my parents.
"Ya know" he said. "It's funny how your the only ones against it" and then he looked at my dad, who was sitting in a chair next to my mom, and he gave him an evil look. Then Brian walked off to his room.
My mom got up and rubbed her head, then she noticed me.
"Jessica, when did you get here?!" She said startled.
"I just got here" I said firmly. "I'm going to go to my room."
Before my parents could say anything, I ran to my room and locked the door. This day has been crazy. I couldn't handle it. Maybe I should just go to sleep. I mean I need sleep, lately I've stayed up late and I'm always late to class in the morning. As I changed into comfortable clothes and was doing some last minute binder checks, just in case I had homework I forgot, I heard my phone. Ding. I grabbed my phone.
It was May, she sent me a text I didn't want to process right now.
Hey Jessica, this is May's mom. Just so you know, May will not be at school tomorrow. She's at the hospital right now and won't be out until tomorrow evening.
