I stood outside May's porch. It was raining and I didn't have an umbrella so I was waiting on May to get me one. I didn't want it but she insisted to give it to me so I just let her get me one.
The door swung open and May appeared with a green umbrella.
"Here you go!" May passed the umbrella. "Stay safe."
I noticed a little sadness in her face which made me feel bad.
"It's only 4:00, I can stay a little bit more if you.."
"No" May interrupted. "You need to go home, your parents are probably worried"
"I think we both know that I would want to be anywhere away from home." I smirked. "Please let me stay, I want to talk"
There was a long pause and we had this awkward moment.... We tried not making eye contact but she finally said "yes, but let's go to the park.. If you want to talk"
"That's fine! Let's go.."
"Okay" May interrupted. "Let me get my raincoat"
When she came back we both walked to the park together, although we had a fair distance from each other.
"So how was your day?" I asked, trying to make conversation.
"It was great, how about you!"
"Well..."
"Oh wait.." May interrupted. "You got asked out by Mason, that must have been great!" She said.
I looked at her and she rolled her eyes.
"Okay you got asked out by Rick"
"Which was yesterday.."
"But you said yes..."
"But I told you.."
"But I never got the chance to tell you..."
"When you came to my house, you wanted to talk about Maddison, not Mason.."
"Well she got me mad because she was being a bitch and.."
"And your always talking about Mason and how cute he is and your going to let Maddison forget about Mason..."
"If she did the same to you then.."
"Oh for God sakes Jessica, it was just a schedule change.."
"I embarrassed myself in front of seniors.."
"They're going to graduate... You'll be forgotten.."
"oh shut up May! You don't even know how I feel!!" I yelled.
She stopped walking.
"What?!" I said. I stood there staring at her.
"This is a bad idea.." She started to turn around but I grabbed her by the arm.
"Look May, we have problems. Things are happening and it's causing drama. We can't just run away like this."
"But.."
"At least let us talk about it.."
"I know" May said. "And I want to but we can't even go to the park without starting a fight.."
"I know and I'm sorry. I guess we both are going through a lot and we just can't help it.. Do you think we're taking out all our anger on each other?"
"Yeah" she said sadly.
We decided to walk the rest of the way in silence.
As we walked up to the park.. We found a spot to where the rain couldn't catch us and we both our jackets and umbrellas away.
"So" I clapped my hands. "Would you like to hear about Mason?"
"Sure." May said. I could tell she was trying to fake a smile.
"So I was talking to Rick.."
"Wait why were you talking to Rick?"
"Oh um.." I didn't want to tell her about Rick but I had to be truthful. Plus, if she found out later.. It would cause more drama and I didn't want her getting mad at me again.
"Okay well this is a long story.. After I got embarrassed from the seniors.."
I told her the whole story and every detail I could think of.
"And then he ran off and that's when Mason asked me out."
May stood there in awe. "Woah" she said. "that's crazy.."
"I know" I laughed.
"Maybe I can try talking to Rick.."
"Nah" I smiled. I thought it was nice for her to try to help me. "This is my own battle I have to fight."
"Of course!" She nodded. "But I'm always here if you need me!"
We hugged it out and we started talking about other stuff.
"So it's kind of weird being asked out by Rick. I mean...he doesn't even talk to me. It was all of a sudden as well!"
"I know right! Mason just asked me out.. Out of the blue.."
"And it's so weird that they apperently like us when yet they don't even talk to us.."
"Do you think maybe they.."
"Please" May covered my hands with hers. "Please don't say it."
"I know." I said sympathy-like. "But it just seems too fast.."
"I know" she said with a frown. "I just don't want to think about it."
"Okay" I slumped my shoulders.
To be honest, I felt like this is all a joke. It just seems way too fast.
"I should go home" May said. "The rain is starting calm and I have to finish some science homework!"
"Right!" I stood up. "Let's go home!!" I tried smiling but I had too many thoughts overcoming me.
"Okay!" May said. We walked to her house and she offered if she wanted to walk me home. I denied it saying I didn't want to her to hear my parents yell.
"Okay" May said. "But at least come inside my house again so I can give you something."
"Of course!" I said.
We went inside her house and went upstairs to go to her room.
"So.. The thing I wanted to give you is in the bathroom. Be right back!" May said.
"Okay! Don't fall in the toilet" I joked.
"Haha you're so funny you slut" she smiled.
We both laughed and she exited her room. As I was waiting, I looked around her room noticing her dresser, her closet, her mirror... And then I saw something under bed... It looked like.. A shoebox.. Under the bed..
I bent down and decided to look what was in there. When I opened the box... I saw a razor, a knife, and a piece of glass...
I could not believe what I just saw...
I stood there in shock.. I don't know what to do.
So obviously, I quickly close the lid and put it back under the bed, being the stupid idiot I am.
I sat there... On her bed.. Shocked.. Scared.. I knew what this meant.. But..
"Hey!" May interrupted. "So I'm back and I got it here!"
She had a beautiful necklace with a crest moon. It looked so beautiful and shiny. She came to me and put it on me.
"Wow.." I said awkwardly. "That's... Wow" it sounds like I'm too happy to speak but really. I couldn't form a word because I was too scared. And that's when I noticed... I had never seen May wear anything sleeveless or a skirt or not even shorts. Just full sleeves and pants...
I didn't want to put on a fake smile. I just stared at my necklace that May just put on me. Then.. I said the words in my thoughts...
May is a secret cutter.
