The next morning my mom drops me off at Roosevelt High and I look for my locker.
"Hey it's the new kid!" I hear someone say and I pick up my red psychedelic board.
"Yeah and who are you?"
"I'd be Irma your first day guide and social outcast." I hold my hand up to fist bump her.
"Social outcasts are awesome man!" I say and she sees my half gloves as we fist bump.
"Nice half gloves. And nice board." She says and I grin winking. "What number's your locker?"
"65." I say and she grins.
"That's great your's is right next to mine. It'll be easier to show you to your classes now." We walk to the lockers and I see a pretty red head with a hockey playing jock. The reason I knew he was a hockey player is because he's holding a hockey stick and is on roller blades.
"Oh thank God! Our lockers are full size, not little half size ones." I say with a grin opening mine after one try with the lock.
"Dang your really good at locker combos. Hey April" Irma says with a smile and then she notices the boy and says "Casey."
"What's your deal Irma?" he asks her and she doesn't respond.
"What's your first class?" Irma asks me and I look at my schedule. I groan and say "Science, and then geometry. Oh great the two worst ideas made by humanity back to back." I complain.
"I like science. And me, April and Casey are in trig." Irma says and I shrug.
"Y'all must be frigging geniuses then." April snickers and I look at her.
"I'm pretty sure saying that about a hockey junky is bad luck."
"I'm a skateboard junky so I'd say my stereotypes worse." I say with a grin. Casey laughs.
"You got me there."
"Lets go guys." Irma says heading to biology. I run to catch up with her and Casey and April follow behind us.
"So are they a couple or something?" I ask Irma.
"They should be so they wouldn't ditch me all the damn time." She says annoyed. I look back to see Casey grinning like an idiot while April's smiling happily. Oh god.
"Honey I can understand why." I say turning back around. "Jesus they're in the worst stage too. Puppy dog love."
"Yeah. I always play third wheel too!" Irma complains loudly and I laugh a little.
"I totally understand. You can always hang out with me." I offer up even though its just my first day.
"That'd be awesome." She says and I smirk winking. We end up in class and all I think about is skateboarding.
"New girl! What's the answer?"
"I don't know. I'm to focused on my life outside of school to care about school." I say bluntly and the teacher backs off a little. I hear snickers from the class and smirk the teacher opens their mouth to say something but the bell rings and school goes on.
"That was awesome!" Irma and Casey both say to me once we get out of class. April just frowns disapprovingly at me and I shrug.
"I hate school so much."
"But you learn stuff!" April says. I laugh.
"When are we gonna use math like trig or geometry in our lives. Oh or how the enzymes in our bodies work? Like unless you're legit thinking about a career as a scientist you're not gonna use it."
"Well I'm planning to be a scientist so deal with it!" April says angrily.
"Girl you need to chill. I didn't mean anything towards you so I'm sorry."
"Ugh no it's fine. I'm sorry for over reacting."
"No problem!" I say with a wink.
"Whatever, what's your next class?" Irma asks before the conversation can fall into one of those awkward silences.
"Oh um well it's art." I say with an embarrassed smile.
"Why so embarrassed skateboard junky?"
"Ummmmmmmm" I say before my stupid backpack decides to conveniently fall off my shoulder and open up. Dammit their so gonna make fun of me.
"Woah junky. These are amazing." Casey says as he picks my notebook up. April and Irma both look at my drawings over his shoulder and I blush. I grab my notebook and rub my head embarrassed.
"So how long you been drawing?"
"Years." I say with a smile.
"Cool the art room's that way. Room 287. You can't miss it!" April says while dragging the other two along with her.
"Thanks." I say before they're out of reach. I inwardly groan because I love art but typically hate art class because the teachers tend to drive me crazy. It's kind of annoying because they always assign us stuff to do instead of letting us work on our own projects. Well whatever, I shrug and head down to where April told me too and find 287. When I step in the door an older looking man says hi and tells me where to sit and then tells me "This isn't like most art classes where they don't let you work on your own stuff. You can work on whatever you want so long as its art. Also you can take your phone out and put it on the table and listen to music." I grin as he explains everything and open my sketchbook to finish my latest drawing. It's a wolf silhouette in howling at the moon.
"That's awesome!" I hear someone say behind me before I have the chance to pop my headphones in.
"Thanks!" I say with a smile looking at them.
