I woke up on a pillow that smelled like Chad. Like a mixture of cologne and the scent of the earth right after it rains.
I opened my eyes and heard the shower running. I looked at the clock. 5:32. Oh yeah, I have school, I thought to myself. But I need clothes.
I finally concluded that I was going to go down the hall to Chloe's room and see if she was awake. Of course she was
"There she is." She said, getting off her bed to give me a hug. "I heard what happend." She said. Pulling away.
She was already dressed and ready for school.
"Yeah." Is all I said.
"Where's Chad?" She asked.
"Shower." I replied.
"Oh. Hey Trinaty can I ask you something?"
"Sure." I shrugged
"Do you like my brother?"
That question caught me completely off guard.
"Umm,y-yeah, he's cool." I stuttered
"I mean do you LIKE him." She emphasized the "like"
The truth was that, I really had no clue what was going on in my life right now
"Trinaty, you know you can tell me anything right?"
She asked.I just nodded.
"Whatever." She said, seemingly shrugging it off. "Help yourself to my wardrobe" she said, opening her closet.
"Thanks."
I grabbed a pair of jeans and a Guy Harvey t-shirt. I pulled my hair into a ponytail and went to get my phone from Chads room. I saw it sitting on the nightstand and I went to grab it. Just then Chad came out of the steamy bathroom in a pair of jeans. He was towel drying his hair, and, of course, he wasn't wearing a shirt.
"Sorry!" I said covering my eyes with my hands
He just laughed. "It's my fault Trinaty, I didn't know you'd be in here still."
"Why are you laughing?" I asked.
"Nothing." He said. "You can open your eyes now."
I opened them and saw he put on the same shirt as me.
"Chloe and I got them for Christmas." He said, smiling.
He's so adorable
"So why're you laughing?" I asked again, crossing my arms.
"You're just so... Innocent." He said, throwing his towel in the hamper that was across the room
"Yeah that's why I'm pregnant." I responded, glaring at him.
"Trinaty. I-I didn't mean tha-" he started.
"Forget it Chad." I said, walking out the door.
I went down the stairs and into the kitchen. Chloe and her mom were sitting at the table eating breakfast. I'm not gonna lie, one thing I missed about having my mom around and my dad sober, was the few occasions when we would sit at the table and catch up.
"Hi sweetie, want some toast?" Chloe's mom asked, finally noticing me in the doorway.
"No thanks, I'm not feeling very hungry." I said, taking a seat next to Chloe.
"Are you feeling okay?" Chloes mom asked.
No. I'm pregnant, of course I'm not feeling ok. I thought to myself
"Yeah, I'm fine." I said instead. "Just a little tired."
Chad came downstairs and awkwardly sat down at the table.
"Hey mom can I have some toast?" He asked
"Yeah just give me one second sweetie." She responded, grabbing Chloe's plate and putting it up
I'm sorry. He mouthed to me. I pretended not to see it.
"So Chad, you're 17 years old and you can't make your own toast?" Chloe teased.
"Oh shut up." He playfully snapped
"Im staying out of this you two." Their mom shouted from the kitchen.
"Good idea." Chad shouted back
"So I was thinking that I would give you guys a ride to school today." Chad said, fidgeting with a napkin.
"Wow is Chad actually being nice to me?" Chloe declared
Chad just gritted his teeth.
"Don't get your panties in a wad Chad. Besides I know you're only doing it for Trinaty." She whispered
"Doing what for Trinaty?" Their mom asked, walking in with a plate of toast and some orange juice.
"Nothing." Chloe and Chad said, almost simultaneously.
"Are you sure you don't want anything?" Their mom asked again. "Are you feeling ok?" She came over and felt my head "you're a little warm."
"Yeah, I'm sure, I'm just not hungry, and I feel fine, but thank you." I said, trying to put on my best smile
"Trinaty, I really think you should eat." Chad said, in a tone of voice that led me to believe that he wasn't gonna talk no for an answer.
"Whoa, since when did you get so protective over Trinaty?" His mom asked him, with her hands on her hips
"Really Chad, I'm fine." I replied
"That reminds me." He said, his teeth clenched
"Your stuff is at your house. I'll escort you down the block to get it.""Um ok.." I said, getting up from the table.
He grabbed my hand and we walked out of the house
"What the hell was that Chad?" I asked, very confused
"Are you forgetting something? Oh I don't know, maybe you're carrying another human being that's depending on you for everything?!"
"It's a little hard to forget that when you're reminding me every second!"
"I'm sorry that I love you and this baby! I didn't know it was a crime!" He snapped back, obviously not thinking about what he just said
"You what?" I asked quietly, I was feeling mixed emotions, part of me was thrilled that he had such strong feeling for me, and I had butterflies in my stomach. But part of me was unsure that I would ever trust anyone ever again.
"What?" He asked.
"You said... Y-you love me."
"Oh."
"Do you." I asked
"Yeah, I do." He responded, coming closer to me.
"Do you love me?" He asked. He was so close that I could feel his breath on my forehead
"Yeah, I think I do."
