Bam! The sound ran over and over in Luke's mind. Bam! A dead body drops to the ground.

Wait! But that was only one shot! The head shot was the only shot! And then, Bam! And another, Bam! right after the first. So maybe there was two shots. Maybe Jacob had shot his own mother. But how? He can barely walk, barely talk. How could he possibly be strong enough to pull a trigger on Sam's hand gun? How had Sam even for the gun? So many questions, not one answer. Not right now at least.

Luke woke up with a rapid heartbeat and Jacob was crying. He climbed out of bed and hurried down the hallway to the nursery. He turned the light on. "Hey, Baby Boy. Daddy's here."

Jacob's crying eased and he stood in his crib. "Daddy?" he asks. "I not evah want you to go away!"

Luke stopped dead in his tracks and stood for a minute before saying, "but, Jake..." he paused. "I have to go to work today. In two hours. Can just pretty please okay with Ashton for a couple of hours? Please? Please be good for Uncle Ashy?"

"No!"

"Yes, Baby." Luke says gently. "Please, yes."

Jake sits down in his crib with a horrible look on his face. "I hate you always leaving like twat."

"But baby boy, I have to earn money so we can live and pay for things. Please just stay with Uncle Ashy, please, for me. I will be back later." Luke begs.

"No!" Jacob battles. "You can't go!"

"Yes," Luke says. "I can. And I will, okay? Whether you like it or not, Baby, I have to."

Jacob lays on his back and kicks his feet in the air. "No!" he screams. "You can't go!" "I hate you!"

Luke left the room. He'll calm down. I know he will. He has to calm down.

But he didn't calm down. After he cried, he screamed, and then worse. He just stopped abruptly. About ten minutes later, Luke went to check on him. He looked in the crib to a motionless baby. Jacob's stomach didn't even rise and fall with his breath, and Luke couldn't sense his breath.
