I got dressed and met up with Raj in the living room. I drove the two of us to the Pasadena Mall where the shopping spree began.
"This store," he urged me. He picked out a cute pink top. "Now here," ten minutes later to get skinny jeans. "Now here, my lady," to get me some nice black leather boots. By the time we sat down to have lunch in the food court I had three new outfits, a party dress, and a really fancy looking necklace and the total--Raj wouldn't let me see it, but I'm almost certain it was over $5000, maybe even close to $10,000.
As Raj was in the middle of eating a corn dog I had to talk to him. "Raj, you didn't have to spend so much money on me. I'd still like you even if you never bought me anything."
"Nonsense darling, I like shopping. Buying things for people other than myself and Howard is nice."
"But you spent SO much. It's almost like your credit card is crying for all the use."
"Don't worry about it. I have the money to cover all of this and more without being close to getting in debt. Don't you like all the pretty things I got you?"
"Yes, I like them. They're all very nice, but...do you know what I'd like better than all these things?"
"What's that? Name it and it's yours."
"Rag, can you do something for me?"
"Sure, anything."
"I'd like you to come to the apartment tomorrow after you're done with work."
"Sure."
"You didn't let me finish. I want you to come over, and I want you to be sober."
"But...I won't be able to talk to you then. I'll get all clammy and nervous."
"Don't worry. I have a plan." That was a lie. "Please Raj, for me?"
He let out a little sigh. "Anything for you, my dear. I'll try my best."
"Thanks Raj!" I kissed him on the cheek. After lunch I drove him home and went into my own home. I only hoped that he would be able to do what I asked.
