Penny's POV
"You were using a robot to talk to me?! What the hell does that even mean!" I could hardly understand what Maddie meant. She was slurring her speech like crazy. I would be impressed if Raj had any idea what she was saying. I know that I was struggling to understand what she was saying.
"I HAD to use a robot to talk to you. There was no other way that I can do it unless I used the robot. Howard helped me and everything. I did it all for you!" I started to suspect that drunks spoke a language that they could only understand. I decided to take a seat on the couch and watch.
"Howard helped you with it? You talked to him about our relationship problems? Who have you the right?" Maddie was steaming. I didn't even know that this girl could get this mad. Honestly, it was a little entertaining.
"It's OUR relationship. I'm a part of that. I think I have the right to talk about it with my best friend!" Raj looked like he was about to cry. This guy was not very good at controlling his emotions.
Maddie looked like she didn't know what to say next. I wanted to step in, to say something, but I had no idea about what I would say. This was hardly any of my business, not that something not being my business stopped me before, but these were my friends. I had to hold my tongue. At least, I figured I shouldn't say anything until Maddie drunkenly blurted about, "Well, if you can talk to Howard about our relationship, but you can't talk to me about it, then maybe you should just date him."
Raj seemed to instantly sober up, but he still had enough alcohol in him to speak. "What are you saying?"
Maddie took a few deep breaths. During this whole time she had just been yelling whatever was on the tip of her tongue. Now she actually took the time to think. I'm not so sure she was thinking anything she would have thought if she was sober, but that's beside the point. For the first time since we got here, Maddie said something calmly. "We're over." She then turned to me. "Penny, let's go."She grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the apartment. I wanted to say something to Raj to comfort him, to reassure him that everything would be okay between them, but I couldn't bring myself to lying to my friend.
The drive home was made in silence. Maddie didn't want to talk to anyone, and I didn't know what I could say to her to make her feel better. When he walked home she stomped into her room. I went to the fridge and pulled out what was left of the boxed wine. I didn't bother pouring it into a glass. I needed and deserved whatever was left in the box. Today was pretty rough, and I had a feeling that it wasn't going to get better any time soon.
