Maddie's POV:
I haven't talked to Raj in a couple of weeks. Things ended badly, but there wasn't really anything else to say to him. I still felt used and violated after what happened with the talking robot nonsense. I really don't need a guy who needs a stupid robot to talk to me anyway.
It was hard to avoid Raj. He was coming over to the apartment across the hallway at least once a week, if not more. I was just glad that I didn't work in Science like the rest of our neighbors. It would just make it more likely that I would run into him more often. I just wanted to forget all about Raj and everything that happened between us.
If there was anyone who knew how to get over a breakup, it was my roommate Penny. After a couple weeks of moping around the house, she felt like he had to interfere in my personal life, or at least make a plan to interfere so that I would get out of the house.
"We need to go shopping, right now, it's very important." Penny sounded like a crazy person, but that was pretty normal.
I looked up from my magazine. "Why is it so important?" I asked dryly. "Besides, aren't you broke?"
Penny rolled her eyes at me. That's how I knew she was, in fact, very broke. "That's beside the point. You just need to get out of the house. All you've been wearing are yoga pants and hoodies. I think we need to get you a skintight dress or a tiny little skirt. What do you think?"
"Do you want to get those things for me, or do you want to get those things for yourself?" It was always hard to tell when Penny was trying to help herself versus when she was trying to help a friend.
"Both," she said bluntly. "Look, I wanted to keep this a surprise, but you've drawn it out of me," She said after I literally asked her nothing about what she was up to. "I want to take you to a club this weekend. It's time that you get over Raj and find someone new."
"No offense Penny, but I don't think that my perfect match will be waiting for me at some club knocking back half-priced drinks after ten. It's not really my scene, anyway." Nothing about what Penny was proposing sounded appealing.
"You don't need to meet your perfect match. You just need to meet your perfect rebound." This sounded like something that Penny had done many times before. Judging by the look on her face, it was something that had worked successfully as well.
"I don't really have a choice, do I?" I asked her.
A big smile grew on her face. "Not really." She grabbed my arm and pulled me off of the couch. "Let's go!" She shrieked. "Actually...why don't you change into some jeans or something, then we can go. Oh! Brush your hair too."
I knew that I was getting myself into something I would probably regret, but I kept going along with it anyway. Oh well. I guess there's no harm in trying. I hope this rebound thing works.
