Raj’s POV:

I walked into Howard’s lab during our lunch break. The lab was so filled with half-built things that I couldn’t even tell what I was supposed to be looking for. “Don’t touch that button!” Howard yelled. “That’s a laser that could blow up half the building! Or maybe just toast some break, we haven’t tested it yet.”

“So, what buttons am I supposed to be pressing?”

“I’m glad you asked.” Howard pulled out a huge helmet-like thing from on top a cluttered table. The only thing missing to make it look like it came directly from a sci-fi movie were the lack of blinking lights.

“Don’t you think that’ll be a little noticeable?”

“Oh, stop your whining, this one’s just the first prototype. The one you’ll be using can fit under a hat.” Howard dug around a bit more. “Ah ha, here it is!” He threw it to me. “Try this on.”

I put it on my head. “This thing smells funny.” I freaked out. “Whoa, what was that?”

“It works; it just said your thoughts!”

“Great. Now, how do we get it to stop sounding like robot and start sounding like me so Maddie won’t be able to tell the difference?”

“Oh, uh, there is this second part…” Howard threw me a dictionary and a flash-drive. “You need to record yourself saying every word in the dictionary. Save it to the flash-drive, and then keep the flash-drive plugged into the helmet at all times. If you think a word that you didn’t record it’ll come out in robot-speech. Oh, and the same thing goes for it the flash-drive falls out too.”

“I have to record every word in the dictionary to get this thing to work? That’ll take forever! Maddie and I have a date tomorrow!”

Howard patted me on the shoulder sympathetically, “Then it looks like you better get started.”
