Chapter 2
When I woke up from my slumber on the cold icy ground, the full moon was still out. I guessed it was around five in the morning because I saw the light color of the horizon peeking its way through the dark, starry, night sky. I did a double take of the moon and for the first time I really looked at it I saw that it was a different color then white. It was a dark blue. It always seemed darker during a full moon but I could still chart it, it always seemed to blend in with the dark night navy blue sky. I guess that's what an apocalypse does to the earth, and all objects revolving around it and all inhabitants to this Earth although there aren't many inhabitants left. We were lucky we could find game in the scarce world of food we live in.
I grabbed my backpack full off old relics I've collected throughout the course of our fleeing. Dumping all the contents out I found something I completely forgot about. It almost flew away in the wind but not before I could catch it. "R, is something wrong?"
"No, just go back to sleep."
"Why don't you?"
"I can't" I said lying. I probably could use an extra hour or so worth of sleep. I ? was stressed out and needed him to go to bed so that I could look at this paper that I had forgot about.
"Come here."
"What?"
"Come here." I knew he was motioning for a hug. I knew Kennan, he was either really cold or really sorry, or both, and he cared about me and could tell when I was upset. But before I even got a chance to look at it I stuffed the paper back in my bag. Then cuddled next to him. I think we friend zoned each other the night our world was lost. We have always been friends and nothing more but if the apocalypse didn't happen there could be a possible chance we were a couple. "Rehyn I'm sorry."
"Does this mean you'll go?" He hesitated. I hoped the answer was yes but I knew it would be no, because of how well I knew him. I don't want to leave him here, but I have that feeling that I can find out answers. I gave him my best fake smile, and my biggest puppy dog eyes I could have. I can remember the times where we had to sleep so close together for warmth, when we went days without food, because there were no rabbits close to us, and there is no possible chance that plants could grow in the frozen world we live in. He was my other half and without him I wouldn't be able to survive this. Without him I would've died five years ago. "Please." I looked up at him. We were still in a hugged position.
"I'll go but only to prove you wrong." I squeezed him tighter, that was my way of thanking him without saying a thing. Still cuddled, it made me feel protected and I had nothing to worry about, but of course we did. We have everything to worry about, but when we are together and at night it made me close my eyes, and I fell into a short slumber for a third time this night.

We were at the Claiming,we only went because after the world ended, a group of people called us to the court yard. It seemed like there was at least one area that survived and I guessed that was me and Kennan and about 500 others
The Claiming is where the Cloud choose who was claimed to be an unsightly, and who they choose to be an alliance with. An unsightly was someone who was worked half to death, or died trying. That's why most of the Unsightly's ran, and if you were chosen to work with them you had an imprint for the cloud immediately, I had no idea how they did it. You were also treated like royalty.
It was divided in half. Colton and I were on opposite sides of each other. He was choose to be an unsightly and I was choose to work with them, they took an imprint of me. I still have no idea what it is or how they did it, but that was why we had to change our names. "Katy!" He said. "Work with them. You'll be protected. I'll run and I be safe. Later we'll meet again." He was shooing me off. I mean I guess it was for my own protection but it still hurt.
