"When you feel like quitting, think about why you started." - Unknown
Shot I think I forgot to update yesterday. Sorry well here is chapter 15 for you! :)
Chapter 15
That's not possible, I thought. No one in there right mind would add being captured to the plan check list. Honestly.
I opened my mouth to argue with him, but then I realized he knew more about the plan than I did. And that was a fact. The plan was already created I was just here to follow through.
We didn't talk at all after that. I didn't know what to say. Kennan just sat there and looked like he was fed up with me. I didn't do anything. Did I? I didn't think I did but I don't know. Sometimes I just say things that are meaner than they actually are.
I heard someone open and close the tent latch. It was Jessica, Ryan, and Ollie. Ollie looked like she had been crying, which frankly I don't blame her. I lost both my parents and an unborn sibling and cried for a week straight. Her daughter didn't die but she was captured and that was pretty much a death sentence, especially since she was a runaway. And especially since she was seen with me.
I looked at Ryan and gave him a half smile, he returned it. Last time I saw him was the night he was my shoulder to cry on.
I also looked at Jessica and made an awkward eye contact. She gave me a sympathetic smile and wave. I didn't return it. Jessica crossed her arms around her chest.
Then I looked at Ollie, who looked the most depressed and worn down of all of us. I knew she hated me. And I didn't blame her. I was a day away from hating myself. "Rehyn I'm sorry. I overreacted." Jessica and Ryan both looked like satisfied parents. I knew Ollie didn't want to apologize and I knew she wasn't sorry but I guess Ryan and Jess made her. Which is weird considering she is the older one of the two of them and is the leader of the Survivors.
"It's fine, and you didn't overreact. I'm really sorry about Katy, I didn't mean to-"
"I know. And my Katy is a fighter. She'll be fine." I smiled at her ending the conversation. Jessica walked over and sat on the table, no not on the ground or in a chair, on the table and criss crossed her legs. Ryan stood right behind her. Kennan gave up his chair for Ollie and came and stood behind me. He put his arm on my shoulder comforting me. He was really the only home I had. Wherever he was, was my home.
"How many did we loose." Kennan asked. He was talking about the people in black hoodies surrounding the gallows at the edge. I didn't realize that those people could've died. I didn't think about that until just now.
"There were a hundred of us that went." Ollie started, her voice cracked when she said went. "Only 15 of us came home."
My heart stopped, because of me 85 people were dead, it was my fault that almost all the children inside of the Dome were dead. It was my fault that Katy was gone. It was pretty much all my fault for everything and sorry won't reverse any of it. Great.
"We don't have enough people to go back and fight." Jessica started. "We can't lose anymore lives than we already have. We have to forfeit." She finished practically giving up. I think Ollie and Ryan were stating to give in. But Kennan he had, what you would call a silver tongue, he knows the right thing to say at the right time.
"Well we lost 85 people. 85 great men and women who cared about saving this world and fought for us." He started. He came out from behind me and then stood next to me. He slammed his hands on the table and it rattled. We all turned out attention to him. "But they died, fighting for something. Something important and that is the rebirth of our world. Are we going to stop fighting because we lost so many people. No! There lives meant something. Do you think the people who died would be proud of us if we stopped here, like there lives meant nothing? No! So let's get our acts together and gather another army. And let's beat the Cloud!" Kennan finished taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly.
