Chapter 12
I could hear a faint voice saying my name. It sounded like Kennan, but he, he just died. "Rehyn," ok this is defiantly Kennan's voice. "Rehyn! Wake Up!"
I was so stunned to see Kennan right next to me I didn't realize it was just a dream. My head was laying in Ken's lap. I quickly got out of his lap and onto my knees. and hugged him around his neck. Hard. He was reluctant at first but then he finally wrapped his arms around my waist.
"It was just a dream." He said stroking my hair. My dad used to do that to me when I had a nightmare. I didn't say anything I just hugged him and released and big breath. He didn't need to know about my dream.
I don't know how long we stayed like that. Every time he would try to pull away I would hug him tighter. I just wanted to stay in this moment forever. But Katy finally broke the moment by tapping on my shoulder. "Kennan, Rehyn we have to go. Mom will think something happened to us."
"Alright let's go." Kennan broke the hug and then helped me up, even though I didn't need it. He grabbed ahold of my hand and held it the rest if the way.
"Katy," I started. "How long do we have until we get there."
"I think it's about two miles. We already walked two miles yesterday. Yea" she paused thinking. "Yea four miles from the end of the Dome to the Cloud HQ." when she said that the Dome was only four miles apart from everything scared me. Knowing that at any given moment we were four miles or less closer to the Cloud. The real close proximity. That's what scared me.
"What did she whisper to you?" I asked Ken. I was really curious what she said when I first met her.
"She asked me if that was the beautiful girl I told her about." I chuckled and shook my head.
"What?" he asked. I didn't respond we just kept on walking.

"Ok," Katy said stopping us. We were going to stop even if she didn't tell us to, because there was a huge cement wall right in front of us. "So there is another dumbwaiter right here." She said sliding open the two doors. "All of us won't fit at once so you guys go first and I will go up afterwards."
Kennan nodded he was probably used to this. He let me climb in first then him afterwards. "Bye! See you soon." Katy said. She was really sweet and adorable and me! It freaked me out a bit. When the doors closed Kennan kissed me. It was a really great kiss but really uncomfortable from the position we were sitting in. I stopped the kiss but smiled showing that I wanted to kiss him but now wasn't the time.
"I'm scared." I said.
"Why?"
"What if they all hate me? What if I don't feel welcomed or liked?"
"Sometimes what your most afraid of doing is the one thing that will set you free"
I didn't respond to that. I didn't know how to. We both had our knees bent to our chest and had to have our head down. "When we exit this you have to smile, because these people think you're their savior."
"What?"
"They think that you were made to save the world."
"I'm just one person how can I save the world?" I asked very confused.
"Your pretty great. For you it wouldn't be hard."
"Are you kidding me?!"
"Hey maybe you don't believe in yourself but these people and me and Jessica and Ryan do. So give them hope." He was looking at me but I looked straight ahead. I'm really awkward when it comes to eye contact, even with Kennan, unless I mad at someone, then I could give you the evil eye (without blinking) until all the cows come home.
"You can't give something, you don't have." He looked straight ahead also.
"Please try." I didn't respond. I was to busy practicing how I should smile. I'm really self conscious about my smile because when mom would take pictures my smile would be terrible. If I wasn't showing teeth I'd look like a murderer, but if I did I looked like a crazy person. It was a lose- lose situation. "Stop thinking about your smile. It's great."
"Says someone who has a great smile." That's all I could get out before the elevator had stopped moving and someone had opened the door. The first thing I saw was what seemed like 400 people, crowed around this tiny elevator. Boy, I was so not ready for this.
We got out of the elevator and I waved to the people. They all just stared at me. This is so awkward. I don't want to be here, but I don't want to be anywhere else. My whole life is a huge dilemma.
"Ladies and Gentlemen," a women said. People parted straight ahead of me to let someone through. It was a tall lady. She was distant so I couldn't see what she really looked like. Kennan squeezed my hand reminding me to smile. "Please welcome our savior. Katy Elizabeth Pate, better known as Rehyn Eliza." I gave them a fake, hopeless smile and wave. While the whole crowd clapped and cheered and chanted my name.
To them I may seem like a savior, but all I really am is scrawny, hopeless girl.
"Whatever your thinking stop." Kennan whispered through his clenched, smiled teeth.
"Why?" I said breaking my smile.
"Because I know you are bringing yourself down and you shouldn't." I smiled again. Not because of Kennan but because I had to.
"Give her some space." The woman said as more and more people crowded around me. I was feeling dizzy and I wanted to hurl, again, yet I didn't have anything to puke up.
Kennan and I started walking to the woman. She still hasn't said her name. I walked and tried to give my best fake smile.
People in the front kept trying to grab my hands and touch me. I don't know why. I'm not important. I'm not a superstar. This isn't my concert.
When we finally reached the lady she put her hand on the top of my back and went in between us braking my connection with Ken. "When you guys didn't show up last night I thought you were hurt or dead." Don't jump to conclusions lady, people get tired. "Kennan where is Katy?" So that's Katy's mom.
"She was going to come up after us." He said skeptically, like he was surprised she wasn't up yet.
"Hello?" someone yelled pounding on the dumbwaiter. The doors weren't opening. I noticed that we had climes out of this above ground, box looking thing. But there was Katy, right on time
"Katy." Her mom released a big breath and ran to the shaft opening. Leaving us. I wanted to go with her. To help her but Kennan stopped me.
"Someone open it. I don't like it in here." Katy said. She sounded so hopeless.
"Why is this not opening!" Her mom yelled. Then the next thing we all heard was a little girl scream as the elevator line broke, falling to the
bottom, taking Katy with it.
