"Ambition is enthusiasm with a purpose." -Frank Tyger. Ok I don't really know if this quote goes with this chapter but I like it so we will use this one.
Hope y'all like the story so far. :)
Chapter 13
When the shaft had finally stopped falling, it was a long way down. I bolted to the cement box.
"Someone open this door!" Katy's mom had screamed, still not knowing her name I made a mental note to ask Kennan. Then someone came running with a crowbar.
Hey even if the world ended you sill might need some tools.
That man had slid the bar in the small crack of the sliding doors and pried it open. It took a few tries and Kennan had to help him. I didn't know why only Ken had offered to help. I guessed everyone was stunned.
Right after I thought that I realized how muscular that man was, compared to all the other men. Kennan didn't have much muscles, he had grown frail in five years of never having a full belly. But he did have a kind heart.
When they finally got it open Kennan and Muscles were sweating up a storm. The mom stuck her head in the shaft holder and looked down. I decided to join her. I was worried even though I didn't know Katy. She reminded me so much of myself and I feel she is like the sibling I never had.
"Katy, baby are you okay?" her mom yelled.
"Yea," Katy yelled back coughing. "But my nose is bleeding." Her mom let out a sigh of relief and laughed. I knew Katy was a strong little girl and I knew she would be ok but it was such a relief to know she was safe.
"How am I going to get up, Mom?" Katy asked.
"If you guys have rope I can climb down and get her then you can pull me and her back up." I offered
"No, we don't want you to risk hurting anything, we have big plans for you and you need to look your best."
"Ollie," hmm interesting name "I think she's our best option to send the lightest person down to save your daughter." Kennan said, sticking up for me.
"Are you okay with that Rehyn?" Ollie asked
"Yea, I'm completely fine with it. Anything to help you and Katy." I said.
"Strey, can you get some rope." She turned to the guy I called Muscles and he ran off. "Bring my baby back. Please." Ollie said, distressed.
"I will," I paused and hugged her. "I promise."
"Mommy, my nose is bleeding real bad." Katy yelled. And Strey came back with the rope.
"Katy, baby Rehyn is going to climb down and get you."
"Ok!" she sounded excited. Strey took the rope and spread it out on the ground. It was really long, long enough to reach to the bottom. He grabbed the middle and wrapped it around my waist. He tied it in a loose knot. Safe enough for my not to fall to my death, but loose enough to climb down with.
He told me to hold on tightly to Kennan's hands with mine and he and some other men would hold onto the rope. Ollie threw the other end to the bottom and ordered everyone that wasn't helping to go back to there homes. I guess they rebuilt homes.
I let go of one of Kens hands so that I could swing one leg over the hollow cement block that the shaft rested in when it reached its destination.
I grabbed his hand again and swung my other leg over. My heart was beating a mile a minute, I was having an anxiety attack. I would always get really bad anxiety before riding a new ride at an amusement park and this seems like one of these times, even though I'm not at an amusement park and I'm not riding a new ride.
