Chapter - 21 (Truth of poison)

Ivy entered the main door of the house after a long walk she went for to clear her head. Although it didn't really helped her much but nonetheless she felt little better after sitting in the city centre park for some time just watching young children play.

She found Luke sitting on the lower steps of the stairs. His head snapped up immediately as she opened the door, he got up and walked towards her with concern written on his face as he spoke "Where were you? I have been waiting for you here from 3 hours"

"3 hours?" she repeated unable to believe that she has been out for so long.

"Yeah... You didn't even tell me that you were going out"

"I just went for a long walk"

"A walk? For three hours?"

"Why...? Is there a problem? Can't I go for a long walk?"

"No, of course you can"

"Good" she said and walked passed him to go in the kitchen. Luke followed her and hung by the dining table as Ivy took a glass and filled it with water.

"What happened sweetheart? You look troubled"

"Nothing" she replied before drinking the water.

"Are you angry with me? Did I do or said something that you didn't like? Because if I did then I am sorry"

"Jeez... Luke. I am not angry on you. I am fine"

"And you want me to believe that? When I can clearly see you are not"

"Don't pretend to read my mind Luke. I am not your soul mate..." she snapped at him.

Luke stared at her in astonishment then understood and smiled "Oh... So that's why your mood is off? Because I said we are not soul mates? But don't you think love is more important than being soul mates?"

"Love dies after few years..."

"No... Not true love"

"But you said..."

"I remember what I said but you misunderstood what I meant" Luke said coming close to her and kissing on the tip of her nose he continued "My parents were not soul mates but they loved each other and never got bored or frustrated"

"They are still together?"

"No..." Luke said lowering his head.

"See...?" Ivy said and tried to walk away from him but he caught her hand and said "My mother died fifty years back... But my father still loves her. You see true love is only thing we need to be together forever and we have that"

Ivy stood there staring at him, seeing the love in his eyes before she couldn't stand there anymore and ran in to his waiting arms "I am sorry Luke... But I was not angry on you" she said into his collars.

Luke held her at arm length and asked "Then what is troubling you sweetheart? Please tell me... I can't see you like this"

"I... I found my mom's letter. One she wrote to me before... Before the accident"

"Oh... So you were missing Amy and Dave"

Ivy nodded and said "That's not all... I found out that I am not their real daughter... They have adopted me"

"Oh... I am so sorry sweetheart. Didn't they ever tell you?"

Ivy shook her head in denial as tears dropped from her eyes.
