Chapter 14: Shroud
I looked up the sky and I was all alone in Park Plaza, waiting to see a sign from Lucas.
Just one. I prayed. Just one sign.
"Shroud I'm waiting, waiting for you. I'm going to fall too." a brush of wind said near my ear.
Tears trickled down my face filled with guilt and sadness, only if I had just put myself together and tried to bring us both here. Maybe I wouldn't be so sad that I would cry each time I remember his name.
"Excuse me miss." a voice from my back spoke so softly.
I turned around to notice a young boy trying to get through to take his toy back.
"Excuse me, can you please get my toy down there?" the boy said pointing towards the toy on the pool.
"Sure." I spoke.
I walked down to the pool and took the boy's toy and gave it back.
"Whites your name?" he said in his kiddie voice.
"Luke!" a man's voice came nearing calling his name out.
"Luke!" he cried out again.
Then a man with blonde hair came out of the doors and found his child standing up happily with his toy in his hand trying to see if there were parts that had been broken.
"Luke." he yelled with a sigh and went towards the child then his brown eyes looked at me.
"Thank you." he said to me.
"Oh it's not a problem at all." I said, smiling.
"I'm sorry he might have bothered you."
"No it was fine; he just wanted to get his toy back."
"Oh," he said.
"Yes. That is his right?" I pointed to the toy in the boy’s hand.
"Yeah, I guess so, if it has two arms and two legs and well a robot face then I guess it’s his."
"Um, it’s a nice toy."
"I'm Henry; I'm Luke's elder brother. Um I'm babysitting for the night."
"I'm Shroud."
"Nice too meet you, um Shroud." He said and held out his hand.
I shook it. Then I saw his eyes near my face. Like how Lucas would look at me.
"Um, do you want to grab something to eat?" he asked. “I mean, for the trouble this little guy caused you, you might be hungry.”
"Um, I actually just wanted to watch the sunset right now, but dinner, dinner sounds great." I said to him.
"Oh! Really that’s nice?”
"I'm fine with eating, but I wanted to watch the sunset first."
"Oh then why don't I accompany you? For dinner?”
"That would be great but are you sure? Do you want to accompany me?"
"Yeah. Luke could accompany you too."
"Sure Luke could." then tears trickled down my eyes again.
Henry looked at me and saw tears pouring out of my eyes, he held out his soft fingers wiped my cheeks and brushed the tears away from my face.
"Why are you crying?" he asked.
"Oh it's not your fault it's just Luke is a name I used to call my best friend."
