Chapter 3
"You?!" I exclaimed.
"Yeah, whatever." He rolled his eyes at me. Josh. He had deep husky voice that I totally hated. And I didn't know what was he doing in my house.
"Alexis, let them in." My mom yelled from the kitchen. So I stepped aside and glared at Josh while he went in. I could see my dad walking after him.
"Well, hello, Alexis!" My dad greeted me with a warm smile.
"What are you doing here? Do you know him?" I queried my dad. I hadn't seen him in a long time, a very long time. He disappeared since I was 9. When I was 11, I figured that he had a mistress and what hurt the most was that he had children with his mistress. Since then, he stopped calling and visiting us. Anthony was so angry at him until now. That was it! Josh must be his son. It means he was my stepbrother. No no no... This was bad! That was why Anthony was not around and my mom had a temper today. But what the hell?! Of all people, why Josh? He was not using Cooper though, and that was a good thing, right? I was pretty sure my father didn't get married again.
"Snacks are ready!" My mom interrupted. We followed her to the living room. I sat beside our mother across from Josh and my dad.
"So...?" I asked both of my parents, looking confused as ever.
They both looked at each other and said simultaneously, "We're getting a divorce." Oh. I didn't expect that one coming. Plus, I really didn't care if they were getting divorced. I didn't need my father, he was not around while I was growing up anyway. So basically speaking, it was like I didn't have a father at all.
"...and why is he here?" Using my so confused look even though I had my suspicions. Josh just kept on typing in his cellphone like he was not even here.
"Uhmm.." My mom started. She kept on picking her nails. I looked at each of them. Dad looked back at me with a hint of guilt. Josh didn't even try to look back, he was still busy in his cellphone.
"He's your brother." My dad answered. I couldn't breathe all of a sudden. It was like my world totally just crushed down.
"No wonder he's so mean to me." I glared at Josh, then at dad. I went straight to my bedroom because I didn't know what I'd do next if I stayed in the same room as them. My mom didn't follow me though. She knew I needed some space and time to digest everything they had said. But to be honest, I didn't need any time or space. I just didn't want to see them right now even though they answered my questions. That was why Josh was so mean to me because all this time, he knew I was his stepsister.
I remembered when we were still in 5th grade. I joined a school play because I loved acting back then. He put a super glue on my chair at backstage and I didn't know it until I sat on it. I didn't get a chance to perform. My understudy took over. And I swore to myself that I would never ever perform again. It was like a trauma for me back then but now I was fine with it.
After an hour or so, I heard a knock on my door.
"Go away!" I said. I was not crying though. I'd just like to be alone, with my laptop.
Last summer, I spent everyday on Twitter. God, that was so addicting, and not to mention, I liked The Collective and One Direction. Sounds not like me, huh? But it was true. I fangirled over them. Their posters were all over my bedroom. They were like my secret imaginary best friends and my getaway from reality.
"Maple, your brother needs help downstairs and they're gone!" My mom knocked again. "I'm going out for awhile, I won't be back after dinner. So just order something, ok?"
"K." I answered while I was still reading tweets on my timeline. I was inconspicuous on Twitter by the way. I only got a few followers and nobody knew I existed.
