Chapter 18 [not yet edited]
Sad, unhappy, miserable, dejected, disconsolate, forlorn, crestfallen, downcast, glum, gloomy, doleful, downhearted, melancholy, sorrowful, mournful, depressed, wretched, and etc. There were a lot more adjectives that could describe what I was feeling. Even though Cal was sitting beside me, I felt so distressed. He didn't actually made me feel what I'd felt before and that clearly tells me that I don't have any feelings left for him.
All this time, I loved the man who made cheeky faces when we were still children, who enrolled to my school even though he didn't need to, who grabbed my wrist like he never wanted to let go of me ever again, who made the lamest poster I'd ever seen, who accidentally but intentionally kissed me, who stalked me and got jealous with Cal, who took care of me when I injured my arm, who got all of my pictures stocked in one of his rooms, who scared the hell out of me when he was mad, who made me a song and aired it on MTV, who made me smile by his silly jokes, who came to rescue me when I was in danger, who was shot three times on his chest.
I loved Trent. I didn't get to say that I loved him and I didn't get to say goodbye to him. Those words are simple yet they are powerful. I hated the feeling of being left alone. It's like you don't have anywhere to go and you're lost. What was depressing me so much was that it was just now that I realized I loved Trent, when he was already gone. It's so true what they say, you'll appreciate someone when he/she is gone. I wanted to think that all of this was just a nightmare. When I woke up, everything would be back to normal. But that won't happen obviously, because I was sitting on one of the benches outside the hospital waiting for Anthony to pick me up. Cal insisted that I should stay in the lobby of the hospital but I couldn't stand the environment, it made me remember about how Trent died.
When Trent got shot, it took minutes for Cal to get me away from the small window. He was hugging me inside the cops' car while the cops ran inside the warehouse. The cops got Celeste, Josh, Jon, and Ed in imprison. They were charged for kidnapping. But Jon was also charged for murder.
I found it bizarre that they didn't even think of denying what they did to us. Or maybe it was a part of their plan. If it was a part of their plan, I'd call it a stupid plan.
Anyway, Anthony arrived a little while later. We were silent inside the car until we reached our house. My mom was waiting for us in the doorway. She hugged me tight when I reached her.
"I love you, honey," she whispered. "I heard what happened." She pulled away but her hands didn't leave my shoulders. She pulled me into our living room and there were people I didn't know sitting on the couch. Both of them are old, they're probably a married couple but I've never seen them before.
The old man stood up and his wife followed him, they both forced a smile to me and I remained my exact expression. Clueless.
Mom looked at me with her 'be polite' look, but I still remained my expression. She cleared her throat before she introduced them to me.
"Alexis, honey, they are Mr. and Mrs. Russel, Trent's grandparents," she looked at them, "I'm so sorry, she's been in a..." My mom couldn't continue what she was trying to say.
"It's okay, it's really hard, we understand," Mr. Russel acknowledged. He said it like nothing happened, like Trent was nothing to him. But I think he was just being strong because Mrs. Russel needed him to. I'm pretty sure when he's all alone, he would break down and cry. Trent was the only one left to them and now he is gone. I don't know if they have other grandchildren though. But I think they are closer to Trent since they were training him to run their company.
I sighed deeply and looked around before I opened my mouth.
"What are you doing here?" I tried to sound polite but it sounded...harsh. Mom gave me a stern look and I just ignored it. I was not really in a mood so might as well let's get to the point right now.
