Chapter 27: Future on Hold

Jake and Rose actually had slept pretty well that night, unlike the night before they ever faced the Dublekas. While they were dreaming, the same situation was planted in both of their minds. How would the fight against the leader Dubleka, which was going to happen the next day, end up? That was what their dream consisted of, and they had to fight them in their dreams. Both of their dreams took a crazy turn too.

Jake's martial arts classes with Tommy and Luke, that he had taken with them before even knowing he was the chosen one, had helped him in his dream fight against the leader Dubleka. He and the Dubleka were having a major fight with kicking, punching, dodging, and more. For the most part, Jake was dodging all of the leader Dubleka's attacks and was hitting him a lot. Soon, after Jake began to grow tired, he brought out his pistol and shot him in the heart. The leader Dubleka died instantly.

"Very well done Jake," someone said behind him. Jake turned around and saw Chris and Ben. He immediately grew ecstatic, suddenly realizing he had missed them this entire time. He smiled shyly.

"You know... martial arts classes help, huh?" Jake asked. He chuckled.

"Yes, they do... but I want you to see what the world would look like if you were to lose to the leader Dubleka," Ben added. The background of Jake's dream changed. Soon, he was in San Francisco, Calfornia, U.S.A. Nothing looked out of place. The city looked peaceful and beautiful as usual.

"But... everything looks the same," Jake gasped, looking around at the familiar town. Then, out of nowhere, explosions started bursting all over the streets. Jake, only being a hologram in the dream, wasn't affected at all. He watched as people died and buildings shattered to debris. In a matter of minutes, the city Jake knew and loved was nothing more than a cloud of dust.

Jake looked up and saw a UFO. The leader Dubleka stepped out of his UFO and looked around the destroyed city as he laughed evilly. Jake found himself growling quietly as he looked at the Dubleka, who was obviously satisfied with what he did.

"Eventually, Jake, that happened to every city in the world," Chris informed. "Every city fell into the hands of the leader Dubleka. He took people hostage and brainwashed them to be in his army. Governments and armies became too weak to fight him and his army... and they all surrendered. In a matter of a month, the world looked like this."

The background changed again. There was pollution in the air that was so strong, it was difficult to see through. There were no cities or towns whatsoever. There wasn't even debris or living life of some sort... just the ground and its emptiness. The world was... basically dead. The leader Dubleka stood in the center of the deserted area, smiling happily to himself.

"The leader Dubleka later on killed the spared citizens after the brainwashing seemed to have worn off," Ben continued. "The leader Dubleka had everything to himself. Nobody survived. Humans became extinct. In a matter of a year, the leader Dubleka did this to every planet in the universe, until it all belonged to him." Jake shuddered at that thought.

"What do you think, Jake?" Chris asked. "What do you think about this possible future of Earth?"

"I think... this is terrible," Jake sighed. "I don't want the future to be like this. It can't be... that can't happen."

"Well, what are you going to do about it?" Ben questioned.

"I'm... I'm going to awaken from this dream with this life to remember," Jake answered. "When I'm fighting the leader Dubleka, I'll be sure to remember this future and remind myself that I'm not going to let this happen. And... while I'm fighting... if I feel frozen or cold in fear, or I'm left alone with an empty soul because something were to happen to Rose... I'll just remember that I've put this future on hold for it to never resume. I will not let anything stop me from defeating the Dubleka race once and for all. I'm part of a plan to save the world, and my new instructions now are to stop at nothing to kill the final alien."

"I like that answer," Chris laughed. "The pure knowledge of the YALE graduate has finally shone." Jake smiled.

"I couldn't have done any of this without you guys, Chris," Jake sighed. "You and Ben were the ones who recruited me, told me the prophecy, and asked me to go on this journey. If you hadn't, the world probably would be dead right now. And thank you for sacrificing your lives too. Your sacrifices and my friends', family's, and all of S.T.A.M.P's sacrifices gave me the motivation to never stop when I was at my lowest points. Thank you."

"We'd sacrifice our own lives for the lives of others," Ben sighed. "I hope you are willing to do that too." Jake nodded. "Good. We'll miss you Jake. You better win for us." Ben and Chris both smiled, and Jake did as well. Then the dream ended.

In Rose's dream, she relied quicker on her gun. Only doing a little bit of fighting, it took the leader Dubleka in her dream three bullets before he died. Chris and Ben appeared afterwards and showed Rose the same future they had showed Jake. Rose was extremely shocked by what the leader Dubleka did to the world, and it angered her as much as it had angered Jake.

"I'm not going to let this future happen, no way," Rose growled. "The leader Dubleka has gone too far by even thinking about doing this. He's not going to cause this future. The future will be way more peaceful than this after Jake and I take care of him."

"That's a great response," Chris laughed. "Don't lose that spirit. You'll need it."

"I won't... guy I don't know," Rose chuckled.

"Oh, I'm Chris, I was the leader of S.T.A.M.P," Chris introduced. "Ben was the co-leader." Rose nodded, remembering Jake telling her about S.T.A.M.P.

"Nice to meet you, Chris and Ben," Rose said with a smile. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go and save the world." Ben and Chris smiled as Rose's dream ended too.

Jake and Rose both woke up at the same time. They looked at each other and nodded as if they had read each other's minds. They both felt more ready then ever to finally finish off the leader Dubleka once and for all. They started preparing for the final battle they'd have with the leader Dubleka.
