I sat down on the unoccupied bar stall next to Damon at the bar, I smiled at Matt, one of Elena's human friends, gratefully when he placed a glass of bourbon in front of me without being asked "glad you came" Damon said as I refilled his bourbon, my dearly damaged brother was drowning his sorrows once again and I was absolutely going to join him.

"Have I ever failed you when you needed me?" Even at a great cost? I thought, glancing at my brother I watched as he downed the rest of his drink and waved at Matt to pour him another one, as the human went to do so I grabbed his wrist gently and looked at him dead in the eye "leave the bottle, and when this one is finished bring us another" I couldn't be bothered compelling him so I slapped down a $100 bill on the bar and winked at him when he took it with a grin and a nod.

"I do recall one time back in the 90s when I got into a bar fight and I was slashed with a vervain laced knife" he glanced at me and smiled sadly, causing me to laugh my ass off remembering him complaining that he hadn't had a challenging fight in years "weren't you the one who supplied that knife?" I laughed harder.

"Hey you said you wanted a challenge so I gave you one" I grinned back at him when he rolled his eyes.

"And how about the many times I asked you who turned you and you dodged my questions like a politician" he looked at me with betrayed eyes, in my existence, I have never been on the receiving end of those eyes, it was always Stefan.

"Damon I told you I don't know" I sighed as he pushed a picture of me and Klaus kissing in front of a restaurant "where did you get this?" I asked staring at the picture, dread becoming a rock in the pit of my stomach.

"I think this guy has something to do with you being a vampire" he looked at me with hatred this time, my world was falling apart around me and if Damon found out that Klaus was the one who was going to sacrifice Elena he'd kill me for keeping it from him, even if it meant protecting him from being dumb.

"Damon" I whispered, my eyes tearing up, I took a deep breath and decided to tell him something about the time he didn't know about, the time he and Stefan were transitioning into vampires, "I met him after I was turned, I woke up and he was there" I quickly wiped away a stray tear that was trying desperately to make its way down may face, I grabbed my drink and downed it in one gulp "after the whole town went chasing after vampires, father sent me to New Orleans where a suitor was waiting... he said that because of the vampires you and Stefan were dead and it wasn't safe for me to be there anymore, I think it was because he just couldn't stand the fact that I was starting to think for myself" I sighed as I remembered the how frightened my father was that night in his office and how agitated he had become with me.

~1864; Salvatore Estate ~

I stood in my fathers study's as he and mr. Gilbert whispered to each other frantically, turning away from both men as they shot looks towards me, I looked out the window and dabbed the tears on my cheeks with the handkerchief that Mr. Gilbert had gallantly passed me when I'd heard the news of my brothers deaths. My brothers, my dear sweet brothers were duped by a wicked woman named Katherine Pierce, they'd died trying to save her from dying with the other vampires the townsmen has rounded up and put in the Church to burn. I'd never see my brothers again, never hear their light jokes, their booming laughs or even sneakily join them for a game of football in the garden after my studies were done for the day.

"Daughter" father said gruffly, he was angry about something and I was going to find out what it was, I had nothing to lose now that Damon and Stefan were no longer with us "say goodbye to Mr. Gilbert" they shook hands and I stepped forward and curtsied.

"Goodbye Mr. Gilbert, thank you for helping us during this difficult time" I smiled as he kissed the back of my hand, my manners would not be forgiven if I'd forgotten them, even now I had to be on my best behaviour, but inside I was glaring at my father, screaming at him to tell me the truth, to tell me what he was hiding and what he was planning.

"You're very welcome Miss Salvatore" he nodded to my father and closed the door behind him as he left, the silence was suffocating in his absence as my father and I stared at each other with strained indifference, I knew why he disliked me, I looked like mother did when she was my age, I'd also been told by many that I resembled her in not just looks. Our relationship had suffered even more after he'd forced me to mingle with suitor after suitor he'd carted into the house one after another, I hated him for that, truly and deeply.

"You'll be going to New Orleans to accept the proposal of marriage to a wealthy land owner by the name of Devereux" father said, pouring himself a drink while he spoke to me coldly and when he didn't bother to look up at me I decided to make my way over to him.

"Is that so" I said as I snatched the glass from his hand, I gulped down the amber liquid and managed not to gag, well to do ladies didn't drink hard liquor, they drank wine and tea and they most definitely didn't gulp it down like a fish, but little did my father know I'd been drinking his favourite drink for quite sometime, since Damon had joined the confederacy to fight for the south, many nights I'd gone to my bed drunk "well I respectfully decline the proposal of marriage" I grabbed the decanter off his desk and poured more of the liquid into the glass.

"That is not your decision to make Alexandra, you are my daughter and you will follow my orders without complaints" he growled slapping the glass out of my hand, it shattered as it hit the floorboards of his study.

"Well I have quite a few complaints and qualms, Giuseppe" I snarled back at him, I'd suddenly gotten feisty and boisterous, I had no idea where this had come from but I gripped the cold furry like a life raft and used it to my advantage.

There was a stinging on my cheek and a ringing sound in my ears, lifting my hand up I touched where my father had slapped me and stared at him with wide eyes, furry forgotten "YOU DARE TALK TO ME LIKE THAT IN MY OWN HOME?!" He shouted unleashing his own anger "I AM YOUR FATHER AND YOU WILL GO"

~ Present Day ~

I glanced at Damon and saw that his eyes were watery, he looked like he was about to burst out crying "he did that to you?" He asked his voice breaking, he put his hand on my shoulder and squeezed it tightly.

"Damon all I can tell you is that Katherine was the one that killed me and Nik was the one that helped me turn, and he kept helping me until the 90's" I mumbled staring into the distance remembering all the fun times we had.

"So this guy, Nik, he helped you through all of it?" He poured some bourbon into my glass that I held out to him "what happened to your fiancé?" I glared at him sharply, a touchy subject, even after all these years.

"Jeffery Devereux was sweet and kind but 2 days after Katherine killed me she slaughtered all his family, except his kids, and servants in front of him in front of him, he died in New Orleans Asylum for the Critically Insane in 1899" I blinked had and shook my head, I'd visited him at one point before he'd died I thought he'd loose what little of his mind that was left, but he'd smiled and told me he knew I was alive and okay, I'd promised him that day that I'd look after his descendants, I'd promised him and then broke his neck so he would not suffer in that place any longer "he was kind and completely out of my league" Damon laughed.

"I doubt that Alex," he chuckled, his unshod tears disappearing in an instant "we need to find a way to cure Rose" he stood up and waited till I got up as well.

"You know there is no known cure, she's going to die" I mumbled to him as he held open the door for me and we both walked out of the Grill, Elena's mindset was rubbing off on him, he'd spent two minutes with Rose and he wanted to save her, she couldn't be that good of a lay.

"I know but I have to try" he crossed the road and we both hurried through the town square, Jesus I missed the days when he didn't care about anyone.

"Glad to know you're seeing the bigger picture, you know Elena is willing to die for Rose?" I asked a little out of breath, I hadn't walked this fast for a long time and it didn't matter if I was a vampire I could still get winded.

"I know and I'm hoping that you being here will change that" he smirked at me as we got into his car and headed in the direction of Ric's crude little apartment, probably for a meeting of the minds.
