"You look frightened." You tore your vision away from your cellphone to glance at Kyoya. He was analyzing every shift in your expression, and it seemed to amuse him. "I hope that isn't going to be your face when we meet my family."
You exhaled sharply with annoyance. "Thank you so much for your support. I'll keep that in mind."
"I wasn't trying to patronize you. I am simply giving you advice on how to portray yourself. After all, my father doesn't hold the weak to high standards."
"Duly noted," you grumbled, crossing your arms and legs with a huff.
You were in a terrible mood. It usually sprouted whenever you had to deal with the incessantly annoying paparazzi, but today was different. The Ootori patriarch has summoned you to his mansion in Japan, even though the trip would be a great burden on you. However, if the man wanted something, he got it. Not even Kyoya could disobey his father and ask to postpone the visit.
With the both of you in a tricky situation, you were forced to comply with his demands and took the first trip to Japan. Missing your classes for two days was the worst thing you could think of, but for the first time ever, you were able to rely on a friend to take notes during your absence. Jess was easily convinced by your tall tale about how you developed a serious illness and were in no shape to attend class. She encouraged you not to worry and that she would be 'super reliable lol'... Those were her exact words.
Now, you just had to show one of the most influential and richest man in the world that you were good enough for his son. Yeah, going back to school wasn't looking so bad.
Once the limo pulled up to his home (or castle), you noticed an elderly man run up to the vehicle to open the door. "Welcome home, Master Ootori," the man bowed, "Miss [Name]."
You both exited the limo, and Kyoya sauntered past the man. Instantly, you realized that the man was the Ootori family's butler. Since you had no experience with butlers or maids, you weren't sure on how to greet the man. You went with whatever was polite in Japan which was a quick bow.
Besides the butler's greeting, two rows of maids followed suit as they all bowed the moment you both walked deeper into his mansion. It surprised you, but you refrained from showing such emotions. Instead, you sent them a kind smile as you passed them. If you acted brown-nosed around fans, there would be a backlash from them. Plus, you didn't think you had it in you to act pompously.
Kyoya guided you into the dining hall where a long wooden table decorated the center of it. Many were seated around the head of the table, where the Ootori patriarch sat. You recognized some of those people to be Kyoya's brothers since you had seen them at the hospital a few months ago. The rest were probably the rest of his family.
"Everyone is here?" you whispered to Kyoya hesitantly.
He offered you a polite smile, "Perceptive, are we?"
You scowled but refrained from partaking in childish banter. You could do that on the ride home with him. Instead, you reciprocated his smile and directed it to the Ootori clan. "Good afternoon."
"Please sit," Kyoya's father kindly ordered as he gestured you to take the empty chairs beside him.
Kyoya stiffened for a moment, then continued to act normal. "You heard him," he hummed as he guided you towards the chair.
