"I, um.." I cough and look around, trying to find a way out of this awkward and dreaded situation.
"Paisley!" The manager strides up to me.
shitshitshit
"Hey." I smile and turn from Shawn.
"I was wondering when you're available for your shoot." She smiles and eyes Shawn behind me.
"I will just call you later. We're kind of busy, you know, buying homecoming stuff." I turn around quickly and snatch the perfume out of Shawn's hands. "Could you put this on my charge?"
"Yeah, of course. Don't forget to let me know!" She smiles and walks back away.
I sigh and drag Shawn out of the store and into the crowded walkway outside, perfume still in my hand. "Here."
"You need to tell me why that lady asked you for a shoot and why you're on that wall." He grabs it and crosses his arms.
"Okay." I take a deep breath. "So I was asked to model awhile ago and I did. Then I didn't want to tell you when Hollister recruited me because you would've made me quit and that's why I didn't tell you." I ramble off to him.
"Well you're right about me wanting you to quit." He rolls his eyes.
"Come on, Shawn. I get paid really good and I want to go to college!" I shake him by his shoulders, as if it's going to knock some sense into him.
"Modeling just makes you even more of a target, Pais." He sighs and starts to walk again.
I frown and walk so that I can catch up with him. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"It means that people already think you're a slut and you being a model adds to it."
"Wait. People think I'm a slut? And how does being a model make you a slut?" I stop in my tracks, rage flooding through my veins.
"Pais, I didn't mean it like that."
"Then what, Shawn? Why didn't you tell me people thought I was a slut and why do people think that? You have such strong opinions about me lately and who I date or decide to go to homecoming with. What's wrong with you?"
"I-I gotta go. I'll just see you later." Shawn walks by me and heads to the doors.
"How do I get home?" I shout at him, anger and defeat still clouding over me.
"Find a way. I'm sorry." He storms out the doors, leaving me alone in this very loud and lively place.
Shawn and I have never fought like that before. It's not a good feeling and I don't even know how to solve it or at least make it better. I have my phone and money so I should be able to call someone. It's just that Shawn never leaves me. I sigh out of frustration and pull out my phone, dialing Amy and waiting for her answer.
"Hello?" A groggy voice answers.
"Yikes. Hangover?" I smirk and sit down on a nearby bench.
"You betcha."
"I'm really sorry to ask but, could you pick me up from the mall?"
"Yeah. Why are you there alone and without a car?"
"I was here with Shawn."
"He left you?"
"Yep." My voice hitches and I shake away the disbelief.
"I'm on my way."
I hang up and decide to at least talk to my manager now. I've got time and it doesn't matter if Amy shows up. I walk back into the store, smiling at the employees that I know. When I walk into the back, my manager is sitting at her desk.
"Hey Kelly." I smile and sit down in the chair across from her.
"Oh, Paisley. Back so soon?" She leans back and folds her hands together.
"Yeah, we had a misunderstanding." I shrug.
"That's too bad. About the shoot times, are you available next week on Friday?"
I cough, caught by surprise that the date interferes with my homecoming. "Uh I have homecoming that day."
"Were you going? This is a nice opportunity for you and we'd be flying you out to California."
California does sound nice. Shawn's probably too pissed at me to go to homecoming anymore too.
"I'll check with my parents but I think I can skip school."
"Great! We'll be in California for 5 days and partnering with a convention called Magcon. Have you heard of it?"
"Nope. What is it?" I frown.
"Talented internet sensations perform and meet their fans. It's kind of lowkey and there's about 5-10 of them."
"Okay." I smile. "Thanks Kelly. I'll call you later once I've spoken to my parents."
"Have a nice day, Paisley." She grins and gets back to her work.
I can't help but smile when I walk out of the store. California? That's amazing! Depending on where we go, I could even try to check out Stanford. This is a great opportunity and I hope my parents will agree. School can wait.
"You okay?" Amy strides over to me, makeupless and in sweats.
"Yes. Thanks for coming to get me." I walk with her outside.
"I'm always here for ya." She smiles then adds, "What happened with Shawn? Isn't he in love with you or something?"
"What? No. He found out that I model at Hollister and, of course, hated it completely. We got into an argument and he ended up storming off."
"Well I guarantee he never leaves you." She shrugs and unlocks her car.
"I know. Plus, he asked me to homecoming this morning." I slide into the passenger side of her black BMW and slam the door.
"Wow. How'd he do it?" Amy smirks and starts the car.
"I just prodded him until he told me who he wanted to ask and he said he wanted to go as friends. So, don't say anything about him loving me." I roll my eyes.
"Yeah, sure. He just doesn't want you to go at all." Amy chuckles and drives down the side streets.
"Maybe. I don't think I'm even going now."
"What? Why?" Amy gives me a puzzled look before quickly turning back to face the road.
"Hollister is going to California for 5 days that day and we're partnering with something called Magcon." I shrug.
"Magcon? The thing Shawn is going to?"
what
"No." I shake my head with furrowed brows.
"Yeah. He told me he was going with Magcon on Friday." She shakes her head. "Then I din't know why he asked you to homecoming if he wasn't even going to be here."
that lil prick i didn't even know they were talking
"Yeah. What the fuck?" I shake my head, anger once again boiling.
"Drop me off at Shawn's house."
