I look at the doctor weirdly before replying. "Yeah, I was told it wasn't really serious though."
"Well right now it looks okay, but may progress into something more. We just want to be safe." He pats my shoulder lightly.
"Okay." I bit my lip nervously.
"Don't be nervous. You're too young to have these types of problems." The doctor smiled and wrote something on his clipboard before leaving.
Everyone comes rushing back into the room, eager for information. Even Mom and Dad are here.
"He said he's just running tests to make sure I'm still good." I lie, smiling. I mean, it was only half a lie. I just didn't say anything about my heart. I hope he doesn't tell my parents because they will go berserk.
"Ah, good." Shawn shoves Brad out of the way and takes the seat next to my bed, taking my hand in his.
"Well." Brad huffs. "I just came to see you. You better keep me posted on those test results, I'll also tell Kelly what's up."
"Alright. Bye Brad, it was nice seeing you." I wink at him, to which he winks back and leaves the room.
"I really need to get me some of that." Amy smirks.
"Oh geez, teenagers." Dad rubs his head before walking over to me. "You want to explain everything that happened?"
My throat runs dry as I recall the events.
Mom looks at me with a hopeful smile. "It's okay, we're just glad you're safe. Nothing you can say will make us angry."
I bite my lip. No, it won't make you angry, but Shawn will murder my heart.
"Come on, Pais. You know how I party." Noah grins from his chair with his crutches resting against the wall beside him.
My breathing is becoming shallow. I can't tell them. Should I just lie some more?
"Paisley, I'll always love you." Shawn looks down at me, rubbing his thumb across my hand.
That does it, my heart rate spikes up and causes the machine to start beeping.
"I'm going to need some of you guys out!" The nurse shouts as she comes to place an oxygen mask over my face and test my blood pressure once my heart rate goes back to normal. Mom and Dad left with Noah, but Shawn is still beside me and squeezing my hand tighter than necessary.
"Okay. The doctor will just take you straight to testing now." Another nurse comes once I've calmed down with a wheelchair. Shawn lifts me up and places me into it for the nurse. I look away from all of them as I'm wheeled away.
_____________
Whispers. I don't know who's whispering yet, but I hear them. I woke up awhile ago, I just don't feel like opening my eyes yet.
"Something you may have said triggered her. She doesn't need anymore stress than she has right now. I'd recommend avoiding whatever the topic was until she is further recovered." It's the doctor.
"We asked about the accident." Shawn speaks up.
"Yeah, don't. I've also been meaning to tell you, her heart condition has worsened. I'm prescribing her some meds that she has to take twice a day. They should just keep her from having a myocardial infarction."
"Heart attack?" My mother gasps.
I take this as a good time to open my eyes, putting on a smile for everyone. "Is everything alright?"
"Yes. I'm going to let you have your last dose of fluids and you'll be out of here in no time. Your parents signed the discharge." The doctor grins at me and leaves the silent room.
"Sweetheart, Noah and Shawn are going to be taking you home. We really have to go to work. I love you." Mom kisses my forehead, followed by Dad.
"I love you too." I nod at them as they leave.
It's utterly quiet now. I know Shawn and Noah hate each other, but this is getting out of hand. I have no idea what to do. Should I tell him? Or should I keep it a secret?
"Shawn." I shake my head and turn to meet his gaze.
"Yeah?" He cups my cheek with his soft hand.
"The night of the accident, I-"
"Don't talk about it." Noah interrupts.
"No, I need to say it." I bite my lip and continue. "Waverly somehow turned to liking me, I think it's because me being a Victoria's Secret model spread about the school. Anyways, I drank a lot at the party. I think I was wondering how you were doing and why you hadn't called."
"I was about to FaceTime you. I just was performing and-"
"Shawn, please." I shake my head again.
"Okay." He kisses my hand.
"I drank a lot." I continue. "I am not exactly sure how, but I ended up on Robbie's lap. My head was pounding and I wanted to get away. He asked me to go upstairs, to which I relented. Then, he-he kissed me. I pulled away and said I had a boyfriend and ran. I ran to your car and tried to speed home." By now, tears are running down my cheeks.
"Pais, I love you. As long as you're okay right now, it's okay. You ran from him and that shows who you love." Shawn kisses me on the lips and I turn away for a second.
"You also don't know something else." I lean my forehead against his.
"What is it? I'll be fine." Shawn smiles and nods.
"Nash and I kissed." I blurt out.
I swear, Shawn's face turned white. He leans back and releases my hand from his grip. My heart breaks at the sight before me.
"Bad timing." Nash mutters by the doorway with a duffel bag by his feet.
