I wake up to the sound of beeping machines and an extremely bad headache. I see Brad sleeping in the chair next to me and a nurse writing some stuff down on a piece of paper.
"Why am I here?" I croak out, coughing to clear my throat.
"Honey, you passed out from the heat." She hands me a cup of water, so I gulp it down.
"Could I leave now that I'm awake, then?" I sit up and run my fingers through my hair.
"We need a parent or guardian to sign you out." She crosses her arms.
"Well I'm here on a trip; my parents aren't here." I bite my lip.
"I can sign her out." Brad speaks.
I turn to him and give him a slight smile before looking back at the nurse.
"You're legal?" She raises her eyebrows.
"I'm 18. I can show you my license." He takes out his wallet.
"I'll go get the papers." She turns out of the room.
"Are you okay?" Brad looks at me with concern.
"Yeah. It's not like it hasn't happened before." I shrug.
"But you're always with Shawn." Brad adds.
"Yep." I answer, popping the 'p'.
"Speaking of Shawn, you should probably call him." He pulls my phone out of his pocket.
"Why? He's just going to worry more." I frown.
"Well, look for yourself." He hands it to me and I scroll through all of the texts and missed calls from Shawn.
"Fine." I sigh and click on his contact, waiting for him to answer.
'Paisley! Are you okay? Where are you? It's 12:00 at night!' Shawn shouts.
I look at the clock and see that it actually is that late. 'Sorry. I'm fine.'
'Where are you? Did you guys miss your flight?'
'Yes. I'm fine.' I shake my head.
'Why won't you tell me where you are?' I hear hurt in his voice, causing my stomach to clench.
'I'm in the hospital.'
'What? Are you hurt? Is Brad?' He frantically freaks out.
'Calm down. I passed out from the heat.'
'You come back right now, Pais. I need to see you.'
'I am. Brad's signing the papers. We'll get the next flight.' I sigh.
'Okay. I love you.'
'I love you too.' I smile and hang up.
"Here are the papers." The nurse comes back and places them with a pen on the side table. Brad reads carefully before signing off in the necessary places. "We will have to notify your parents." The nurse adds.
I nod. "That's fine. I'll give them the heads up."
"Thank you." She takes the signed papers and gestures to my clothes on a separate chair. "Let me take out your IV first." The nurse leaves and comes back a second later with a few gauze pads and gloves on. She pulls the tape off and and removes the IV before putting the gauze on and placing tape over it. "Once you're done getting dressed, you can leave."
I smile and get up, walking carefully to get my clothes and go to the bathroom.
"While you're doing that, I'm calling Kelly so she can get us a plane asap." Brad nods at me.
