Erza had tried her best to talk Tobi out of getting on the train, but one sentence, just one sentence, silenced her.
"Why should I?"
Erza couldn't speak after that. Why shouldn't he? Tobi was a very capable fighter, completely hammering Bluenote Stinger and fighting on par with him while heavily injured.
Erza shook those thoughts out of her head. She was trying to get him to stay, not leave.
"I thought as much." Tobi said as he turned around and nearly stepped on the train.
"Wait!" Erza shouted as she desperately clung to his arm.
"What?!" Tobi said in a hushed and dangerous voice.
Suddenly, the television in the train blared. The vicious voice of Master Hades echoed through the train station.
"Greetings. I am Master Hades of the righteous movement known as Grimiore Heart. This announcement is due to the Selection. We would like for you to know that, as of now, anyone who participates in the Selection shall be under attack. Your families will suffer, some will even perish. However, all of this can be averted. All you must do is exit the Selection. The choice is yours. Either you endanger the life of your family, or you withdraw immediately."
Tobi's eyes widened as the realization hit. He looked in the direction of his house, only to see smoke.
"Mom." Tobi whispered as he suddenly rushed forward and out of the train station. As he approached his house, the smoke increased in size. Tobi's breathing quickened and he increased his speed.
He stopped before the flames could reach him as he burst through the woods to his home. The flames were increased, and he was now screaming his mother's name.
Besides the flickering of the flame, the only sound that responded to him was the screaming of his mother in pain.
