Chapter 32 : "True Power"

A/N sorry guys. Would've updated but I've been sick for the past five days. 1.095 words in 30 minutes. Not bad.

Tobi swung his golden blade, aiming for Zeref's head.

He missed.

Zeref stood in the air with a blank look on his face, clearly not intimidated but observing.

"You're.... Too weak." Zeref finally said as he once again dodged Tobi's blade. Tobi knew it too. He knew that, no matter what he did, he would never be able to defeat Zeref. Unless....

"Zeref." Tobi called. "Where's your blade? Surely, when the Phoenix taught you Phoenix slayer magic must have bestowed a sword of legend."

"You are not worthy of that blade. Those two dragons over there..." Zeref quickly glanced at Igneel and Achnologia. "Are worthy.

Zeref only looked away for a slight second, not even a full second, but that was enough. Tobi moved forward at an incredible speed, managing to close the distance between him and Zeref in that short time span. He swung his blade down Zeref's chest.

"Gotcha." Tobi taunted as he retreated to his original position in the sky.

Igneel was losing. Anyone could see that all of his attacks weren't affecting Achnologia anymore. And yet, he fought on. He was determined to kill him, whether or not he died himself.

Sparan landed behind Kagura, drawing the beauty's attention.

"You can feel it was well, can you not?" The old Phoenix asked. Kagura nodded her head. The two, as if practiced a hundred times, turned their heads towards Tobi.

"He's finally releasing his true powers." Sparan spoke as a light blue aoura eminated from Tobi. This puzzled Kagura. What was that blue light? And why did Sparan just say that he's releasing his true strength?

"What do you mean, true powers?" Asked the perplexed beauty.

"Did you not find it somewhat weird that I, a blue Phoenix, taught Tobi regular flame magic? No, I did not teach him that magic. I taught him the most powerful flame magic of all. He just acquired his current flame-magic from training."

Kagura still wasn't getting it. All that she got was that Sparan had taught Tobi Phoenix slayer magic. And what on Earth did he mean 'Most Powerful Flame Magic'?

Sparan saw her confused look and let out a deep sigh.

"I taught him Blue-Flame magic."

Zeref backed off, the blood pouring from his new wound. His eyes widened in surprise..... Earlier, Tobi's powers were barely enough to scratch him and yet, even now, his powers were increasing. Tobi stretched his arm out and activated a magic circle.

"Release, thy forbidden flame of the destroyers." Massive, searing hot blue flames poured out form the magic circle. "Envelop all life and destroy anything I choose."

Tobi closed his eyes as he felt the sensation of his former powers return to him. The surge of power made him feel like he could fight anything in the world, and in truth, he could. When Tobi opened his eyes, they were no longer dark, but a light blue. His hair transformed into different shades of blue as well, but his golden blade only tinted blue.

Zeref was staring at the Mage before him, shocked that a Mage of this caliber had been hidden from him for so long.

Then he smiled.

"That's great. Maybe now, I can finally die." Zeref leaned forward slightly, then casted a magic circle of his own. Just like Tobi, he pulled his own blade after chanting.

"Release thy self from the outs of hell, Akuma no Jigoku no ha!" Zeref pulled a pitch black blade that had a jagged edge form the magic circle.

In the next instant, the two rushed each other, clashing blades in mid-air.

Natsu was sprinting. Where to? The palace, where an explosion had sounded. He was worried for Lucy.

Suddenly, a blonde's scream broke the air.

"LUCY!!!" Natsu shouted as he ran even faster. What was happening to her?

Lucy felt the searing flames near her as he walked closer.

The male laughed, enjoying every bit of her pain.

"How's it feel? Ya'know, to be powerless before someone stringer than you?" The male taunted, then broke out in a laugh. Lucy got a good look at him. He had long, ragged, blonde hair and piercing red eyes. He wore a purple uniform with orange out linings that stopped short of his shoulder, and had a long sash going down his chest diagonally.

"Before ya die, I wanna hear you scream one more time." An evil grin replaced his smirk as he raised his foot to stomp Lucy back into the ground. Lucy was powerless, lying on the ground with every part of her body aching in pain.

As the male brought his foot down, someone caught it mid air.

"Sorry, wanna run that last line by me one more time?" Said her savior. Lucy opened her eyes to meet the best thing she'd ever saw.

Natsu had finally arrived.

The male jumped back, surprised by the sudden arrival.

"Heh. So, your Natsu Dragneel? Kind of disappointing actually." The blonde male taunted.

"Who the hell are you?" Natsu asked as he glared at the male.

"Name's Zancrow. I used to be in Grimiore Heart before before Tobi Asher killed my master." Zancrow's anger was rising, revealing itself in his eyes as he spoke.

"I didn't ask fer ya background. Just yer name so that I can put it in your grave. You hurt my Lucy. There's no going back now." Natsu punched his palm, lighting his fist on fire.

Suddenly, his whole body exploded with brilliantly colored flames.

"Your going down!" Natsu shouted as both he and Zancrow charged each other.

Tobi had lost. His "Hell's Phoenix Blade" fell to the ground below, his left arm trying to stop the blood flow from a massive wound in his chest.

"It was a good fight. No ones ever done this much damage to me before." Zeref said as his own arm was covering the multiple wounds Tobi managed to inflict.

Tobi suddenly fell forward, his vision fading as fast as his strength.

"Good bye, Asher." Zeref said as he swung his blade from left to right once, firing a wave of black flames at Tobi.

Tobi closed his eyes, awaiting the deathly impact. His eyes were hidden from view by his hair, but his smile was wide and free.

"You choose to smile at your death?" Zeref asked before the wave consumed Tobi's vision.

The last thought that registered in Tobi's mind was that the sun looked beautiful today.
