Chapter 5

‘’where’s matt?’’ I asked as I looked around the cafeteria.

We had balled yesterday, that was a Monday. He should be in school today.

‘’no idea,’’ Keith said uninterested as he took a bite of his burger.

I thought back to his panic attack, and my suspicion of him being abused. Was it possible? I’ll just ask him tomorrow, if he comes back.

I kept a firm lookout for the tall brunette boy with the amazing eyes on the next day, but he never turned up. I started worrying, what if something bad happened to him? What if got into a car crash? What if a family member died? What if HE died? I gasped out loud unconsciously at that thought.

No way, calm down Sophia. Gosh, such a worrier. He’s probably down with the flu.

‘’you alright Soph?’’ Tyler asked with a concerned look in his eyes.

‘’no, I’m not,’’ I said before grabbing my books and sweeping out of the library.

‘’you’ve been weird all day, in fact you’ve been weird for the whole three days, what is up with you?’’ Olivia demanded.

‘’nothings up,’’ I insisted.

Matt still didn’t turn up today.

‘’no Liv’s right, you’ve been all uptight and weird,’’ Lia added in, Kia nodded in agreement.

‘’I’m fine,’’ I said irritated.

‘’no you’re not, stop lying, we’re your friends,’’ Tyler said narrowing his eyes at me.

‘’is this about matt?’’ Keith asked. He hit the jackpot, as always.

‘’no, ‘I lied with a huff.

‘’bullshit,’’ he said rolling his eyes. ‘’you were fine on Monday, then since that matt guy’s been disappearing you’ve been all weird,’’

Geez Keith, why do you have to hit it right on the nail every single time?

‘’just for the sake of my wellbeing, be quiet,’’ I growled.

‘’we’ve got to head to maths now, we’ll be here when you need an ear to listen to,’’ Olivia said sympathetically before getting up with the twins then walking out of the café.

Tyler’s girlfriend had come up and they started a hot make out session right in front of Keith and me. After seeing them swap saliva for a good minute, they finally looked up then clasped their hands together and left with a barely audible goodbye.

‘’well that was nice, I felt like I should’ve popped some popcorn, enjoyed the movie,’’ Keith said sarcastically before leaning back on his chair and stretching.

I raised my eyebrows in agreement before turning to my barely touched lunch.

‘’deny this in front of the others, but I know I’m right. It is about matt. I’ve known you since we were in our mother’s stomach,’’ Keith said looking at me straight in the eye.

I squirmed under his gaze feeling like he was looking into my soul.

‘’you like him,’’ he said his trademark smirk appearing on his face.

I pushed his face away with my hands. ‘’I don’t,’’

And I honestly didn’t know if I did or didn’t, life was confusing.
