Chapter 19
Matt pov
I wake up to a soft unfamiliar bed with an unfamiliar scent. Bolting up with fright I look around and recognize this as someone’s house. Who was it again? It looked so familiar but I couldn’t put my finger on as to whose house it was…hmm…shaking my head a jolt of pain ran up skull causing me to fall back on the pillow in pain. My tongue was feeling sandy and dry; when I spotted a glass of water sitting by the table I downed the whole glass mindlessly. Then after licking my lips greedily I got up to my feet shakily.
Whose house was this?! I had no idea. I knew it, but I couldn’t spit the name out. I padded outside softly and I heard familiar voices, but then yet again I couldn’t put my finger as to who it was. When her face came into view I scrunched my eyes in puzzle. I knew her, I was sure of it, how come I couldn’t spit out her name then?!
‘’Matt?’’ she asked in a soft concerned tone.
Wait, Matt? That’s me. How did she know my name? Shaking my head in annoyance I took the last step down to come to face her.
‘’hi,’ I croaked out. My voice was hoarse and my throat was stinging.
‘’are you alright?’’ she asked again.
‘’just fine,’ I nodded. ‘’but um why am I here?’’
She swapped a look with a guy that I recognized as well but I didn’t know his name either.
‘’you don’t remember anything?’’ she asked.
I shook my head. ‘’sorry,’’
‘’that’s completely alright, don’t worry about it,’’ she said shaking her head with a small smile. ‘’come join us for dinner,’’ she said invitingly.
Then my brain clicked. She’s SOPHIA! Yes! I remember now!
Grinning to myself I mentally congratulated myself. After finishing a rather quiet and awkward dinner I quickly excused myself and left in a jiffy.
After unlocking the door I flicked on the lights and was greeted by a very empty and very silent house, it was so quiet I could hear the clock ticking, the fridge humming and my quiet footfalls. After padding to my own room I dumped my bag down and flopped on my bed, I still couldn’t remember what had happened. What did I do? Why was my throat so painful? Why was I at Sophia’s house? Actually I wasn’t even sure if I remember the correct name? Sophie? Sophia? I don’t know. Groaning in annoyance I punched myself on the head causing a load of pain, biting back a moan I buried my head in the pillow.
Life felt so disconnecting; it felt like there were big gaps in my life, big question marks floating around my head making me feel like life was incomplete. My parents didn’t care about me or like me, Sophia/Sophie was only my friend because she pitied me, it was obvious that the dinner was awkward because of me. ME.
Maybe you shouldn’t live.
I shook my head. No. Don’t even frikkin go there.
Come join me…come…
Her voice whispered in my ear again and I saw her again. She was like mist, thin and wavery, just floating around, but her eyes still pierced into mine, reminding me of such an intense moment of my life.
Come join me and you won’t need to live with the pain and guilt. You should know. Trust me….
Her voice was soft, like a whisper, but it was stronger than a thunderstorm, a hurricane, a volcano explosion. Her voice echoed around my head sending shivers up and down my spine.
