Chapter 11
‘’I’m abused,’’ he said softly his gaze locked on the ground.
My first initial thought was fuck I was right. Then I felt sad that it was true. I looked at him with no sympathy; I didn’t want him to know I felt bad for him. I knew that people didn’t enjoy the look of sympathy. I held a strong firm stare.
‘’I don’t know what to do,’’ he whispered before tears dripped from his eyes and fell onto his pants.
‘’oh matt,’’ I sighed.
I wanted to comfort him but I didn’t know how, I simply looked at him and sat by him while he cried.
‘’they did it this morning,’’ he sobbed openly.
‘’they were away for the whole term break, that’s why I booked all these classes with you. If they knew I was meeting some girl they’d kill me, they won’t even listen to me and let me explain that I’m not dating you. So I kept it from them. This week they were going out of town to visit my grandma but they came back a day early. Then they looked through my phone when I was in the toilet, they saw us texting and they got angry,’’ he cried into his hands.
‘’I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry for texting you,’’ I said in horror while my eyes filled with tears.
‘’it’s not your fault,’’ he sniffed. ‘’but then they got really angry and started hitting me,’’
‘’I’m so sorry,’’ I said again.
‘’they were smart enough to keep away from my face this time, but it still hurts,’’ he wailed,
It wasn’t until then that I realized how much of a child he still was. He never got the chance to be a child and be smothered and pampered from his parents; he needed and wanted to be loved.
‘’you have to leave them,’’ I said firmly.
‘’no, you know that time when you came into my house and saw my face all broken up?’’ he asked wiping his face.
‘’yeah,’’
‘’it was because they saw me come back from playing basketball,’’ he said quietly. ‘’they didn’t like the idea of me going out and messing around,’’
‘’why not?’’
‘’they think I should concentrate on my studies, they said I was a failure of a son, if I didn’t pick up on my studies I’d be a failure of a student as well,’’ he sneered with anger laced in his voice.
‘’you’re not a failure of anything,’’ I said firmly. ‘’if anybody’s a failure, it’s them. They don’t even know how to raise and treat their son properly,’’ I said angrily.
He smiled wryly while he wringed his hands together nervously. ‘’thanks,’’ he said nervously peeking at me through his lashes.
My heart sped up. Oh my god, why did he have to be so cute.
‘’it’s no problem,’’ I swallowed.
‘’I’ve been working on that being normal thing again,’’ he admitted after playing with his fingers for a while.
‘’yea, I’m so proud of you,’’ I grinned remembering how he had fluttered his hands next to time without getting a panic attack.
‘’do you think I could try again?’’ he asked sheepishly.
‘’of course,’’ I beamed.
‘’’Sorry if I freak out again, it’s not you, it’s just me,’’ he said with a gentle smile.
‘’don’t worry, healing takes time,’’ I said wisely.
‘’shall we play in the park for now?’ he asked as he wiped the last of his tears away.
‘’race you to the swings!’’ I yelled as I sped towards the swings at full speed.
‘’THAT WAS CHEATING!’’ he called after me with a small smirk.
‘’you’re just a sore loser! “I sang back as I reached the swings and climbed on it quickly swinging myself up and down.
‘’cheater,’’ he muttered teasingly as he grabbed onto the swing next to it.
‘’loser,’’ I grinned.
‘’we’ll see who can swing higher then we’ll see about that loser name,’’ he winked as he kicked off.
It was evident after his second kick that I was losing by a long shot, his legs were so much longer he automatically swung higher.
‘’That’s not fair!’’ I retorted pointing to his long legs.
‘’you’re just a sore loser,’’ he mocked my words in a falsetto tone.
‘’god my voice does not sound like that,’’ I groaned.
‘’does too,’’ he piped up in a kiddy voice. I laughed at his puppy eyes.
‘’told you YOU’RE the loser,’’ he said with a smile.
I stuck my tongue out at him.
‘’wow and immature to top it off,’’ he chuckled.
‘’just shut up and swing,’’ I said tossing my head away.
‘’see, point proven. SORE LOSER!”’ he sang out happily as he kicked higher.
I kept my head firmly turned away from him pretending to be angry.
‘’you’re so adorable when you pretend to be pissed,’’ he complimented.
‘’compliments don’t get you anywhere,’’ I said hotly.
‘’it got you to talk,’’ he chuckled before kicking off even higher and then sending himself flying into the ground.
I stopped abruptly and pointed and laughed. ‘’KARMA KARMA KARMA!’ I chanted happily.
‘’damn you,’’ he muttered as he picked himself off from the ground.
I still giggled at the sidelines. ‘’karma karma karma,’’ I continued chanting.
‘’karma’s a bitch,’’ he said brushing his jeans.
‘’no swearing,’’ I said wagging a finger at him.
‘’yes mommy,’’ he said rolling his eyes.
‘’come on, we should go,’’ I said looking at the darkening sky.
Then remembering what he said about trying to be better I offered him my hand.
He looked at it, then back up at me. Then he raised his hand hesitantly, it fluttered near my hand sending a wave of butterflies in my stomach. That was all he had gone to last time, I expected him to pull away. But he took a deep breath and entwined the rest of his fingers through mine. He was frozen stiff; his fingers were warm yet hard like stones. Then he breathed out slowly, his tensed shoulders relaxed and his hands slowly curled around my comfortably.
His touch sent electric shocks flying up my spine, shocking every single nerve alive, it made ME feel alive.
‘’I thought we were going,’’ he joked as he looked at my surprised face.
I flashed him the brightest grin I had ever given him.
‘’yes we are,’’
And we continued back home with his hands never leaving mine.
