Chapter 30

‘’so how is he?’’ I asked the second I plopped down on Dr. K’s office.

‘’the news isn’t good,’’ he said shaking his head as he flipped through his papers.

All hope for this day faded. ‘’what’s wrong?’’

‘’we found out that he was acting like that because he hadn’t been taking his medicine, in fact if our calculations are correct he hasn’t been taking them for months,’’

‘’WHAT?’’

‘’yes…shocking isn’t it,’’ Dr. K said shaking his head. ‘’I have no idea how he managed to survive but yesterday must’ve been the cracking point, I’m glad we discovered his problem or else he could’ve done much worse,’’

‘’so what now?’’

‘’he’s very unstable at the moment, even though we’re giving him his meds it’s not working because of how much he missed for the pass weeks, he’s dangerous,’’ he said grimly. ‘’he doesn’t talk to anyone, he barely seems conscious, he’s either in shock or still clung onto his hallucinations, either way, it’s not safe for anybody he knows to see him,’’

‘’so does that mean I can’t see him?’ I asked my throat closing up.

‘’I’m afraid that’s right, you can see him through the glass wall, he won’t be able to see you but we will, this is how we will evaluate him. Neither Kate nor I are allowed to see him, in case it triggers something and he goes…’’ he trailed off not knowing what word to use.

‘’crazy?’’ I offered.

‘’i’m terribly sorry,’’ he said sympathetically.

‘’it’s alright,’’ I said shaking my head.

‘’do you know anything that he could’ve hallucinated that led on to what he did?’’ Dr. K asked.

‘’no,’’ I said after thinking for a while. ‘’I only know he sees his sister,’’

‘’sister?’’ he asked sitting straight and giving me his full attention,

‘’um…yeah…he mentioned his sister,’’ I said not wanting to give any more information away. ‘’didn’t he tell Kate?’’

‘’no she never said anything about a sister,’’

‘’oh…’’ I trailed off pathetically. I wanted to tell them to help Matt but at the same time I wanted to respect him, this was his story to tell, not mine.

‘’do you know anything else about this sister?’’ he questioned.

‘’no,’’ I lied as smoothly as possible.

‘’thank you for that though, if we look further back in his records or do some evaluation in his house we could definitely find some reason as to his issues,’’ Dr.K said enthusiastically.

‘’great,’’

‘’do you want to see Matt?’’ he asked.

‘’yes please,’’ I said quickly gathering my bag.

He led me down the hall and through a series of corridors. ‘’well this is complicated,’’ I said chuckling lightly trying to lighten the mood.

‘’we keep our most unstable patients away from the rest of them so if they do escape and leave their room at least they won’t be able to do much harm before we find out,’’ he explained.
