Chapter 23

I sat outside twiddling my thumbs waiting for the 45 minutes to crawl by, I didn’t hear any shouting or anything breaking so that could be a good sign, but there could just be really thick walls. I sighed flexing my hands, 2 more minutes. This should be ok, if it was that bad he would’ve stormed out.

Finally the two minutes went by and the door unlocked, Matt stepped out and he looked pretty much normal. I stood up quickly.

‘’hey!’’ I breathed out happy that he was ok and didn’t seem pissed or sad.

‘’hey,’’ he replied.

‘’I’ll see you next time Matt,’’ Kate said sending us both warm smiles.

‘’mmm,’’ Matt replied.

‘’thank you so much,’’ I nodded grinning at her.

‘’not a problem,’’ she beamed before closing the door after her.

‘’hey so how was it?’’ I asked as we were walking down back to his room.

‘’meh,’’

‘’care to elaborate?’’ I asked as we went to his room.

He settled into his blankets and pulled the duvet up.

‘’want some water?’’ I offered.

‘’sure, thanks,’’

I poured him a glass then waited as he chugged the whole thing down.

‘’so, how was it?’’ I repeated.

‘’better than I expected, but I still don’t like it,’’

‘’what did she get you to talk about?’’ I asked curiously. ‘’you don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to, I’m just curious,’’

‘’nah, we talked about useless stuff, she wanted to get to know me first, but then after a while she started asking me harder stuff and I kinda just stayed silent,’’ he told me.

‘’oh, well do you want me to talk to the doctor for you?’’ I asked. ‘’I can always tell him that you don’t want the therapy…’’?

‘’you know I think I could give it another shot,’’ he mumbled his face turning slightly pink.

‘’that’s amazing,’’ I nodded beaming at him. ‘’I’m so proud of you,’’

‘’it’s no biggie,’’ he said scratching the nape of his neck embarrassed.

A week had passed since his first therapy session, and it was evident that he was getting better. Whatever this Kate person was doing, it seemed to be doing the job. I don’t know what he told her or what she told him, but each time he came out, he would be more willing to step into that room the next time.

In a way, I was jealous of her. She’s known him for a week and got him to open up and improve, I’ve known him for months and there hasn’t been a drastic improvement of anything.
