1. Betrayal

Lily and James Potter sat watching their two children, who were twins. The twins a bit over a year old. They both had tufts of black hair, the same as their dad and emerald green eyes, the same as their mum. The two children looked so alike at first glance you wouldn't even realise that one was a boy, the other a girl. They were Harry and Megan Potter. The pair of them sat gurgling and grabbing at things in the middle of the living room floor.

The Potters' best friend, Sirius Black, had come by a few hours ago. He was playing with the children and chatting with his friends. Sirius sighed as he caught sight of the time.

"I should go it's starting to get late," Sirius said sadly "I'll see you tomorrow."

"Bye Sirius," Lily said as she leapt up to give him a hug.

"Yeah see you mate," James said smiling.

Sirius nodded and waved goodbye to Harry and Megan smiling as they watched him stand up to leave. "See you," he said again before turning and walking out the front door not waiting for them to show him out.

"James we need to put them to bed now," Lily sighed. She then walked over and picked up her children and carried them up stairs to their bedroom. She placed them in their cot glancing out the window and realizing how dark it had become. She had been about to tuck Harry and Megan in when they heard the front gate creak open.

James frowned "Maybe Sirius forgot something," he said sounding confused. He quickly walked over to the window and looked out. He saw a dark cloaked figure making it's way along the front path and immediately he knew who it was. He turned around looking pale and quite panicked.

"What's the matter James, who is it?" Lily asked terrified of what the answer would be.

"It's him," James said striding over to the stairs. "Take Harry and Megan and run, I'll hold him off."

Lily's eyes filled with tears knowing who it was and what they had come here to do. A loud bang of the door being blasted open cut into her thoughts and a tear leaked out of her eye.

"Avada Kadavra," cried a cold heartless voice. Lily watched in horror as green light filled the stair well and hit James. She watched helplessly as he tumbled lifeless to the ground. Another tear rolled down her cheek as she stared at the dead body of the man she loved. The man who had killed James stepped over his lifeless body and moved into the doorway. He who must not be named, Voldemort himself.

"Stand aside you silly girl," he snapped glaring at Lily.

"No," she whispered before repeating herself louder "No!"

"You don't have to die," he sneered "if you just stand aside I will spare you."

"I would rather die than stand aside and watch you kill my children," Lily said more tears began to pour down her cheeks. "I will never stand aside, never!"

Voldemort glared at her before yelling "Avada Kadavra."

Lily screamed as the green light shot at her before hitting her square in the chest her scream was cut short, yet it seemed to hang in the air, as she too fell lifeless to the ground.

Voldemort turned his gaze onto the two babies who were both watching him. The little girl stared at him angrily before yelling her first word "Mamma."

Voldemort muttered a spell under his breath, it was one he had made and would allow him to cast two spells at once. He raised his wand pointed it at both of the babies "Avada Kadavra!" He watched in satisfaction as the spells hit the two babies who began wailing in pain but to his shock they didn't die. Suddenly he began to feel unbearable pain, he felt he was getting weaker so he turned and fled from the house.

A minute later a small man came in and rushed up the stairs calling out "Is it done my lord?" he then noticed James's body on the stairs. He ran up the stairs and froze in the doorway seeing Lily's body laying in the room. He then noticed the two wailing babies that sat in their cot they each had an odd lightning bolt shaped scar on their forehead. The man crossed the room and looked down at them he picked up the little girl looking at her.

He then heard the front gate creak open he rushed over to the window and saw a giant man making his way across the yard sobbing. He quickly ran from the house seeming to forget he still held the little girl in his arms.

He then heard a wail come from the girl and glanced down shocked that she was still there. He didn't know what to do, he wouldn't dare to go back to the house but what else could he do with her, he definitely couldn't keep her. He finally realized what his only option was and apparated to the poor area of a town called Little Whinging and strode over to an old looking building where he pulled out a piece of paper and a quill and wrote;

This girl needs a home her parents recently died please look after her. Her name is Megan Potter.

He felt confused as to why he cared if they looked after her or not. He even wondered why he didn't just kill her since that had been what his master had been trying to do but he seemed to find he couldn't kill the little girl. He glanced up at the old building as he placed the little girl and his note on the doorstep. He checked the sign above the door and nodded when it read Little Whinging Orphanage. He stepped forward and knocked on the door before disappearing into the night.
