5. Shopping
Megan POV
We stood out the front of Gringotts and I could feel the weight of the bag of coins in my hand. I had never had so much money. I didn't know what to do with it. At least now I knew I could definitely go to Hogwarts.
"Might as well get you your uniforms," said Hagrid as he nodded towards a shop called 'Madame Malkin's Robes for all Occasions' "Listen, you two wouldn't mind if I slipped off to the Leaky Cauldron for a pick-me-up, I hate them Gringotts carts." I looked at Hagrid and noticed he still did look a bit sick.
Harry and I both nodded and smiled to him before turning and entering the shop.
Madame Malkin was a squat smiling witch who was dressed all in mauve.
"Hogwarts?" she asked as Harry and I were about to speak. "Got the lot here - another young man being fitted up just now,in fact."
Harry and I followed her to the back of the shop to be fitted up. There was a boy with a pale and pointed face standing on a footstool while a witch pinned up his long, black robes. There was another footstool beside the boy.
I told Harry to go first. He stepped up on the stool and stood as still as he could. Madame Malkin slipped a long robe over his head, beginning to pin it to the right length.
Although I couldn't hear what they were saying I noticed that Harry and the other boy were talking to one another. Harry looked annoyed so I wished I could hear what they were saying.
Finally Harry's robes had been fitted and he stepped down from the stool. I stood up to take his place so I could be fitted up as well.
I stood there while Madame Malkin bagan fitting me up. After a few minutes I noticed the pale faced boy was staring at me.
"Hello," said the boy after a few more minuets. "Are you and that other boy twins?"
"Yes." I answered him uncertainly.
"I thought so, you both look very alike." said the boy smartly, I already didn't like him for some strange reason. "Do you play Quidditch?"
"No," I said annoyed wondering what on Earth Quidditch was.
"Well, I don't think you would be any good at Quidditch you are a girl after all." at this point I glared at him. What a stupid sexist pig. "What house are you going to get put in?" he asked obliviously.
"I dunno," I replied trying to figure out what houses he was talking about.
"Oh, well I suppose no one knows until they are sorted, but I know I will be in Slytherin, my whole family has been. If I was put Hufflepuff I'd leave. wouldn't you?"
I wanted to ask what Slytherin and Hufflepuff were but didn't dare because I didn't want to sound stupid. "I wouldn't leave if I was in Hufflepuff," I said annoyed by his rudeness.
"I suppose Hogwarts is the best magic school there is, but still it would disgrace my family if I was put in Hufflepuff because that is where all the stupid people go."
I sighed now sure I would be put into Hufflepuff because I was quite stupid. I had never learnt to write and could only read because Mrs Johnston had taught all of the orphans with magazines. She bought the magazines out of the minuet orphanage fund by saying they were for our learning.
"You're done, my dear," said Madame Malkin stopping any further conversation between myself and the boy.
I gladly stepped down from the stool to get away from the nasty boy. I walked with Harry over to the counter to buy my robes and the rest of my uniform.
