I grab Marina's hand and plant a kiss on it. "So how are we gonna find his room?"
"Easy." She simply says. I decide not to go further into it.
We walk up the main road of Zander in silence. The walk takes us about five minutes then the simple motel comes into view. As we get closer memories flood my senses. It's been months since the whole thing with Chris. Even after all this time, I can still feel his fists on my face and the way he'd hold my body down to...... I try to shake the memories away. However, it seems like everything comes back to this damn motel.
Marina dropped my hand and led the way. We walked inside to the reception area where a plump woman with red curly hair sat clicking away on a computer.
"Hey Lorna!" Marina greeted the red head, in an awfully cheerful voice.
Lorna looked up and her eyes shined with admiration. "My God, Marina! It's been ages. You're looking as beautiful as ever!" Marina giggles and reaches to hug her across the desk. "What brings you to my ratty old motel?" Lorna looks over at me and a hint of recognition flickers in her eyes. I'm sure she clearly remembers the girl who brought the police to her usual quiet motel.
"Well," Marina begins "my uncle has come to visit me from Wales, but he forget to tell me his room number."
Lorna looks shocked at the fact that someone has come to see "abandoned Marina". But she quickly recollects herself and sits back at the computer. "What's the name?"
"...Dimitri." Marina announces timidly.
She clicks away at the computer and his info appears on the screen. I lean forward across the desk to "inconspicuously" get a peek.
Guest: Dimitri Diamandis Room: 12A
Arrival Date: October 3rd 2015
October 3rd? That was a little over a month ago. What has he been doing this whole time?
"He's in room 12A, Sweetie" Lorna smiles.
We turn to head out of the reception area door. "Thank you Lorna!" Marina calls to her. "Don't be such a stranger!" Lorna calls back.
We begin walking past all the identical room doors. "Marina, I saw Dimitri's info on the computer screen. It said he's been here since October 3rd." she stops in her tracks.
Anger transforms her face. Creases form. What could he possibly be doing here for a month?" She exclaims. Her eyebrows furrow in deep thought. "I guess he was waiting.... and watching.
MARINA'S POV
My palms were clammy but I held my chin up high. If I looked confident then I'll be confident.
Lana and I stopped in front of 12A; I felt her hand slip into mine. I took a deep breath in and knocked.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK
We heard things fumbling around. "Shit!" A voice swore.
Lana and I looked at each other in confusion. The voice was not the one I remember from Pearl's.
About a minute later the knob turned and the door slowly opened to reveal a small.....feminine figure.
"Leah?" I practically yelled.
She looked just as surprised as I was. "What are you doing here?" she demanded.
"Where's Dimitiri?" Lana counteracted. My thoughts were racing at a thousand miles per hour. I couldn't get a grasp on what to say.
Leah's eyes widened at the mentioned his name. "H-h-how do you know about Dimitri?" she asked in a suddenly soft voice.
Something's off, why is Leah here? In Dimitri's room?
"What do you mean 'how do I know about Dimitri'? Why wouldn't I know about him?"
"So you know?" she asked
I'm getting so goddamn tired of everyone asking all of these questions and none of them being answered.
I let go of Lana's hand and swiftly shove Leah back into the motel room. She stumbled back enough for me to get into the room and pull Lana in with me. "Lana, lock the door please."
She does as I say. The room is littered with papers, brief cases, and crates of fruit. Which was incredibly out of place but reminded me of the ones that would always be on my father's ship.
Leah sits on the bed looking up at me.
I do my best to look confident and untouchable, so she wouldn't try to play any of her stupid little games.
"How. Do. You. Know. Dimitri?" I throw each word at her like knives.
"Marina, look.." she begins.
I lean down so her face is only inches from mine. "You're going to fucking tell me what you know, or I swear god Leah, you will never step foot outside of this motel room again." I bring my hand back to my cargos where "I'm grasping a non-existent knife" to threaten her.
She looks unbelievably scared. I'm sure she's shaken up, she's not used to me having the upper hand in our little spats.
Leah takes a deep breath in and begins. "Dimitri works for my Father.....so did your dad."
What the fuck does she mean? How can she know about MY father
"What the fuck do you mean? My father worked at sea, in trade!" I yell at her.
Her eyes become solemn. "You really don't know..." she looks at the ground, as if she's dreading her next words. "That's true, he did work in trade. My father's company was a trade industry to cover up the real business."
Leah stands up and walks over to one of the crates that carried passion fruit. She picks up one of the ripe fruit and shows me the sticker that reads "PRODUCT OF AUSTRALIA" she easily peels it off revealing a hole. "Cover your mouths and noses." she orders. I look back at Lana, who has silently standing by the door the entire time. She trudges over to me and covers the bottom half of her face with her palm and I do the same. Leah grips the delicate fruit tight and forcefully ripes it apart and a small baggy falls out.
Even with the baggy being closed and our noses and mouthes covered, the aroma hits our senses hard. the burning sensation reminds me of when Lana basically forced me to try wasabi when we went out for sushi.
Leah seems unfazed by the smell. She holds up the small baggy filled with white powder. "This is Scopolamine. The world's most dangerous drug. My father also happens to be the Worlds biggest contributor of it. Dimitri and Gregory were importers.. well Dimitri still is. They ship it from here to other distributors who worked under my dad."
Watch my life unfold all around me .
