I run up the steps and pound on the door. I don't stop till I hear the lock clicking. The door slowly opens to reveal exactly who I needed.

"Marina...?" He drags out each syllable in my name.

I breath hard trying to catch my breath. "Ian.....I...I need your help"

"What? Marina what's wrong? why are you crying?" His eyes are panicked, searching my face for an answer.

I touch my cheeks, not even realizing that I was indeed crying. "Ian please, there's no time, we need to go back to the motel." I'm panicking, every second is a second wasted.

He just stares. "Ian!" I exclaim "she's getting hurt! He's hurting her lets go!"

He inhales slowly, his patience wearing thin. "Who?" He asks

"Chris is beating Lana!" I snap at him, his eyes widening in shock.

That does the trick.

Ian runs inside and grabs his keys, he runs out the door not bothering to lock it and we jump into his car.

We speed down the road. "I knew there was something up with that guy. He talked to her like a piece of shit." He says resentfully.

"Yeah well I knew it was happening before she told me. Her body is covered in bruises. But it's been going in for years." I spat.

He doesn't speak anymore until we arrive at the motel.

"Okay how-"

Before the car even stops I'm getting out. Ian follows as I run to the door, hoping for some kind of miracle.

"Lana! I'm here!" I yell as I enter the room.

I stop dead in my tracks.

Lana lays unconscious underneath Chris who is slowly pulling down her underwear. My heart pounds and anger raises to my skin. The sight brings bile up my throat. Next thing I know Ian runs past me swinging a baseball bat at him. The bat connects to his back and he lands in the bed next to Lana.

He tries to sit up but the breath was knocked out of him.

"YOU'RE DEAD" Ian yells swinging again, this time bringing the bat to Chris's face. He rolls off of the bed and onto the ground.

"You're gonna pay bitch" he mutters, spitting out blood.

"No you are" Ian growls swinging the bat over and over again. The veins in Ian's neck are pulsing, I can see the pure hatred and anger in his eyes and actions.

Each thud is louder than the last.

He throws down the bat, then drags Chris's barely conscious body outside.

I run to Lana who's eyes are slowly fluttering open.

"Marina..." She groans.

"Lana, shh I'm here you're okay." I get on the bed and rest her head in my legs.

"It hurts" she whispers.

"I know." I whisper back, soothing her hair.

Chris's body lays right outside the door. Ian is pacing muttering things into his phone.

"The motel on Seaside Avenue.....Yes that one.....She's barely conscious......no he's laying on the ground right now......."

I look down at Lana, her whole face swollen and blood slowly dripping from her lip and nose. My eyes search her body for more injury. Tints of blue, purple and green cover her body. Her ribs were the worst, you could see the outline of them within the dark sickly purple.

I slowly lay her head onto the pillow and make my way to the bathroom to get cloth to wipe her face. The guilt that I have about the fact that I left her is killing me. I had no other choice though, I wouldn't have been able to stop him myself. I could've called the cops but that would've taken too long. Ian's house is right up the road so that was the logical answer.

*LANA'S POV*

Marina returns with a wet cloth, she carefully wipes my face clean of any remains of blood.

"It hurts" I whisper again, but my speech is impaired because of my swollen lip.

"I know, but it's all over now." She mumbles.

"What do you mean?" How can it suddenly be over?

"Ian just got off of the phone with the police." She smiles.

Guilt hits me. I'm causing Chris to probably go to jail, to have a criminal record. Maybe if is had listen to him this wouldn't be happening. If I wouldn't have started talking to Marina none of this would be happening. We could all live our lives normally.

"What? Marina he can't go to jail!" I try to sit up but pain shoots through my body.

"Lana, stop" she pushes me back down with her hand. "Relax, none of this is your fault. Remember this is not the man you thought you loved. If he really did love you you wouldn't be like this." She gestures towards my body.

"But no one deserves to go to jail." I mutter.

"No Lana who know who goes to jail? Rapists, abusers, thieves, murderers..." I nod at her. "Basically people who hurt other people. And you've been hurt for who knows how long. Lana, please nothing is your fault, stop blaming yourself. You deserve more and I'm gonna give you that." Her eyes water.

My mind goes back to when we fell asleep in this exact bed together...

"I'm not doing this cause I feel bad for you Lana. You're not some Dr. Phil case. I'm doing it Lana because you need someone who will love you for eternity. Who will love every little thing about you. From the freckles on your stomach to the depths of your green eyes. You deserve everything Lana."

"And you think you can give me that?"

"I know I can."

All of Marina's words about what love really is comes flooding back. I can't believe how naive I have been. I need her, I need her to fix the damage that Chris has done. I need her to show me what love really means.

Flashes of blue and red appear through the window, signaling the the arrival of the authorities.

"Stay here." Marina says, she gets up to inspect what's happening.

I only listen to the words being spoken, I wish I could go see but I'm too weak.

"This is him?" An officer, I'm assuming, asks.

"Yes Sir." Ian responds.

"Sir you are under arrest...." I can't hear all of the legal stuff he says over Chris's yelling.

"NO!! I'VE DONE NOTHING!!! IT'S THAT BITCH!!!" I can hear his struggle through the scratching of the pavement. "WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU?" Chris screams.

"Me? Well, I'm everything you're not." I can hear the smirk in her voice.
