I had never been to Spokane before. I didn't take vacations over the summer unless I was tagging along with Ashley's family to some new place or maybe the beach. So summer was something that I hated. It was boring, uneventful, and more than anything, lonely. I hated being alone.
"Ohmygod," I heard a voice beside me mumble. His lips were thick and full, and he had a lopsided smile. Yeah, I was on the plane now. And yes, I hated it because my jetlag symptoms always lasted for what seemed like forever. Seeing his face made it worse. A lot worse.
Remember when I told you I had one boyfriend a long time ago and it had been a huge mistake? Ta-da! This was probably my 2nd worst nightmare. There he was. Liam Novikov. He had curly blonde hair that was in cute little tufts and a smile that could make a Strigoi blush. Oops, my mistake, he wasn't here alone. Pretty Raina Montgomery looked at me up and down. "Who's she?" she asked, sounding defensive and jealous.
"Just an old friend, Raina, nothing huge," he replied, waving it off. Nothing huge? Hmph! Me and Liam had been together for over a year before he had dumped me for Raina. Raina, of course, had been absolutely clueless about who I was.
Raina then sat down and returned to the latest issue of Seventeen Magazine. Liam was a non-royal Moroi. He was pretty hot for one was wasn't royal. Raina was also a Moroi, and she was absolutely gorgeous. She long, taut, wavy brown hair that was glossy and shiny. Her lips were perfection with just the right amount of strawberry-peach lip gloss. Raina was like a supermodel. She was perfect in every sense of the word. She was what every guy wanted.
And I was what every guy didn't want.
"How are you, Emma?" Liam asked. I glared at him from across my seat. Not everyone had boarded yet, but the plane would be taking off soon. I couldn't help it. I may have been heed over heels for Liam a few years ago, but that wasn't so now. I was mad at him, angry at him because he had hurt me. He was such a jerk. Ashley kept telling me so, but I had never listened to her.
"I'm fine," I said politely as I could. I didn't want to come off as extremely unpleasant. I may strongly dislike Liam, but being rude towards him was just plain mean. I knew he was talking to me just to tease me, it was who he was. It got annoying.
"Really? Miss me?" he whispered. Raina of course, didn't notice. My eyes narrowed. What kind of guy who had a girlfriend asked that? Liam had always been such a big flirt, and of course he was well-suited with Raina, who didn't notice any of it.
"Not at all," I said curtly, pulling out a book. Pride And Prejudice. It was my personal favorite. It had been my favorite since I was 12.
"I don't believe that," he replied, and smirked. How cocky he was, acting like he was a God had always been a quality that I hated about him. I would do anything to just spit in his face right now and slap him. Imagining it was almost just as nice, but it wasn't quite the same.
I shifted in the cushy seat. It was gray with tiny spots of pink and green and white here and there. An old man sat next to me, and a young woman in her mid thirties occupied the window seat. "Like how you don't believe that you treat all girls like crap?" I asked, and smiled behind the covers of my book. My auburn colored hair was up in a high ponytail and I bit my lip, hoping Liam would just shut up already.
