Rick and T-Dog had just come back after taking our share of food back into the cell block. They brought weapons with them, for the prisoners to choose from. My mind still wasn't straight, I was so worried about Hershel and it was distracting me. And I could tell that Daryl was noticing my constant spacing out. We'd also found out the names of the prisoners. The leader was Thomas, the ginger was Axel, the tallish guy was Oscar, and the shortest was Andrew. We were stood round the table of weapons, the prisoners each choosing a weapon. Except for Thomas, who looked down at the weapons with Disgust.
"Why do I need this?" He asked, holding up the crowbar. "When I've got this?" He said, pulling his gun out. I scoffed and rolled my eyes.
"You don't fire guns, not unless your back's up against the wall. Noise attracts them, really riles them up." Daryl explained.
"We'll go in two by two. Daryl will run point with T and Piper, I'll bring up the rear with you." Rick explained, pointing at Andrew. "Stay tight, hold formation, no matter how close the walkers get. Anyone breaks ranks, we could all go down, anyone runs off, they could get mistaken for a walker, end up with an axe to the head." He said.
"And that's where you aim. These things only go down with a head shot." I told them.
"Ain't gotta tell us how to take out a man." Thomas scoffed.
"They ain't men. They're something else." T-Dog told him.
"Just remember, go for the brain." Rick ordered before we left the cell block. We entered the halls and began scoping them, looking out for walkers. As we came to the corner, Daryl was the first to step out before signalling the rest of us to follow him.
"Man, it's too damn dark in here!" Big Tiny complained.
"Gotta hold it up high out in front of you. You're gonna hear 'em before you see 'em." Daryl told him. Big Tiny lifted his axe up higher, doing what Daryl said.
"It's coming!" Axel called, as a shadow appeared.
"Shhh!" Daryl hissed, before lifting his hand, stopping the group. The walkers groans grew louder as they turned the corner. Daryl began counting with his hand, but before he could reach three, the prisoners ran towards the walkers, screaming, and began to attack them.
"Ugh!" I groaned before leaning against the wall and holding my head in my hands. We then looked up at Rick, who had a fed up look on his face. I stood up straight and walked next to Daryl. "How long do you think they'll survive?" I asked, peering up at the guys. Daryl sent me a slight smirk, whereas Rick just shrugged and shook his head. I looked back at the prisoners, finally fed up with the show, so I pulled out my knife and threw it, hitting the walker that Axel and Big Tiny were beating up. The walker fell to the floor and the two men stared up at me. I then took out my other knife and stabbed the other two walkers before grabbing my other knife. "What part of aim for the head did you idiots not understand?" I snapped, placing on of my knives back in my holster. I scoffed before walking off, ahead of the rest of them. The group quickly caught up, and Daryl rushed next to me.
"Don't run off Pipe." He told me.
"Sorry, I wan't thinkin', I got a little too angry." I mumbled.
"Don't worry, it's understandable." He whispered. I glanced up at him and sent him a sad smile. Suddenly, groans echoed through the air, as another pack of walkers, came round a different corner. Daryl signaled the group to stop, before stepping forward.
"It's gotta be the brain!" He snapped, shooting a walker in the head. "Not the stomach, not the heart, the brain!" He said, as another walker stepped forward.
