It was Friday. Aki wasn't here. Sam walked into homeroom expecting to see the dark haired male staring down at his phone reading something until he came over and sat next to him. But his seat was empty. The place he normally saw him was empty. Even after the bell rang, even during lunch. Sam went out of his way to see where he was because he wanted to know if he wanted to hang out over the weekend or get a tour of the city. He'd only been here a week so why not?
"Hey Sam." Cassie said. "Saaaaaam?" She repeated. "Hey Sammy, Aki's here."
Sam's eyes lit up as suddenly his back was straight surveying the room until he realized the girls were all just staring at him. "Oh. Sorry."
"Are you ok?" Jessica asked opening her water bottle and downing some of the bright purple liquid inside that smelled very strongly of artificial grape flavoring.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little tired." He admitted, but that wasn't all that was wrong.
"You didn't look this defeated when I saw you this morning." Cassie said, leaning on the desk. They were all supposed to be doing bookwork but Sam just couldn't focus.
"I'm okay. Really guys." he said with a smile plastered to his lips.
He did feel defeated. But there wasn't a reason for it really. He just sighed and ran his fingers through his hair and rested his forehead in his hands, propping himself up. He couldn't understand why he felt so defeated, besides the fact Aki wasn't here. He was kind of worried in that respect.
"So..." Cassie said, it was rather obvious she didn't believe him. "As I was saying, I think we should go to that new movie that's coming out in theaters tomorrow. It would be fun and afterwards we can go to Canary." Canary was a coffee shop on the corner of Bird's Road.
"Sounds like a plan!" Angela chimmed and the other girls nodded their agreement, squealing a little in the process.
Sam smiled, he really loved these girls. While they didn't always believe him when he said he was ok, only when he was trying to make them feel better by saying he was, they were there for him when he most needed it and they changed the subject when something wrong came up and moved on so they wouldn't have to discuss it.
The only problem now was he was worried about a new kid he'd only known for a week. He wanted to be closer to him, he wanted to make sure he wasn't sick or maybe he could give him his missed work.
Now that he thought about it, Aki was super tense yesterday. Maybe something happened.

Aki lay in bed, he woke up at 1:36pm. He stayed laying there until almost 2:30pm. He couldn't get his body to move. He carried out the mission he needed to. But once he had shot the man, the goons with him had chased him across the city till he got around the corner fast enough to dart up a fire escape and get to another building before they could and then he ran back to the apartment.
Now he was just sore.
With a groan he rolled over and managed to get his feet on the floor. He stood up and felt a little better. Walking into the bathroom he turned on the shower to have a hot shower, just below burning heat. He stripped and looked at his face in the mirror. He needed to shave. He hated even having a stubble. Reminded him of the man who trained him too much.
As much as he loved that man, he was glad he was dead cause he would be beating him still if he was alive. Shaking his head, dispelling the thoughts he climbed in the shower and let out a heavy sigh when the hot water hit his knotted back.
------------
With a towel around his waist, he left the bathroom and took grabbed a water bottle from the kitchen before going back to his room to change into lazy clothes. Loose shorts that hung off his hips and a black sleeveless shirt covered him enough as he picked up and checked his phone.
One new message:
Good work Zero. Clean and expertly done. You have another job tomorrow as a lead on to taking care of the main reason your in town. Seven will be joining you in 9 days.
Of course that's all they had to say. He shook his head and dropped the electronic on the bed. As the jobs came and went, Aki felt like he was losing to the side of him that was Zero. At the company he didn't use his name, no one did. The only reason he knew anyone's name or they knew his was because of a job. Even then, only Seven knew Aki wasn't just a cover name.
The company was like that. All secrets, all honesty, trained killers hired and kept secret by the government. He was just one of their dogs after his parents died and Twenty-Four took him and his brother in. Aki was already a fighter, Bailey was too young to start, and he didn't have the drive for it. He missed his brother, after this job he was supposed to have a week away from the company and everything so he'd go stay with him for a while. Bailey was brilliant so he was already in college, but had his own apartment that Aki helped pay for close to campus so he didn't have to stay in a dorm room.
He missed school. He wondered why there was no comment of that in their message. They must not mind too much considering there wasn't a call. He sighed and went back into his living room to check his laptop for the schedule update he was supposed to get.
There was some gang leader that apparently was partially paid by this man named Thorn to keep things level on the streets. Gordon Franklin. He was going to dinner at a restaurant tomorrow. The schedule gave him an address but it was two streets away from the restaurant. He would be on top of some building with a sniper rifle on Bird's Road.
He sighed and closed the windows.
Part of him wished his life wasn't a secret, that his records hadn't been erased when his parents died and he started training, that he didn't have to kill in this life. But it was all he ever knew. What was he supposed to do. Ten years he'd been trained, now he was the best. He was in charge, which meant he had the most secrets.
Aki shook his head. At least they paid well. And every penny was automatically put into an account under the family name that Bailey was using until he was on his own feet and working his own brilliant job and making more money than Aki.
He dropped himself on the couch and turned on the news. He wondered how many secrets they were keeping and how many they shared. They weren't secrets once so many people knew them.
Aki watched the screen bored of everything, he thought of Sam. He missed school today after all so he couldn't see how he was doing today. Yesterday he seemed stiff and had trouble moving as easily as he normally did. He guessed the beating he got just bruised him, otherwise he wouldn't have been there. Whatever the reason behind it, Aki hoped those kids were just going to leave him alone.
If they had a problem with Sam being gay, he wondered what they would do when they found out Aki was bi.
