"Get up."

Aki shot up with a start. At first everything was still so dark he couldn't see anything. When his eyes finally adjusted, he could see his brother, Bailey, sleeping soundly beside him.

"Aki come on. You have to help us get ready."

"Ready for what?"

The man smiled, the man Aki recognized as his dad. But that was impossible.

"Come on! Don't wake your brother!" He whispered with a grin on his face.

Aki paused, remembering what this was. A small smile touched his lips and got up and followed his dad out the door. Closing it slowly behind him. He followed the man down the stairs and into the kitchen and watched as he walked up to a woman icing a cake at the counter. He watched as the man wrapped his arms lovingly around her waist and kissed her cheek.

His mother and father were an odd pair. He remembered how funny they got with each other just around the house. It's like they never got out of the honeymoon stage. She flicked his forehead to get him off and he just laughed and held up his hands.

"Go get the presents." His calmly her said to him and he nodded, padding off to grab them from the coat closet. It was late spring, almost summer. Bailey would turn 6 today. Aki was three years older and had been helping celebrate for the last three years.

When he went to grab the presents, they fell into a pile of ash. His hand jerked back to him as he heard a scream. His father yelled. His brother was crying as he turned around and was standing on the street outside his house, he stepped back. He was now watching as the 9 year old him stood in shock. Holding his brother to his stomach so he didn't seethe house falling apart, crumbling to the ground. He could feel the heat as it radiated off the fire and Hit his skin. His brother only turned 6 a week before this.

Everything was ash. Everything was burning. The screams stopped. And he started-

Aki woke up in a cold sweat. He sat up immediately breathing a little harder than normal. He gathered himself enough to breath normally and tell himself it was just another nightmare. He shook his head and got up. It was Wednesday. He huffed. Yesterday had been lot of work he hadn't expected and a fire had lit up a building so he wasn't surprised that it triggered something. He was fine. It didn't matter. It was ten years ago.

With a huff and sigh Aki managed to get himself ready for school. It was almost painful though. He was having trouble thinking due to all that was going on. He just needed to make it through the day and he'd go finish his job and it wouldn't be that bad.

In the bathroom he looked at himself in the mirror and again sighed. Running his fingers through his hair and holding his hands there. He stared at the faucet. Why did he have to have that kind of dream when he couldn't just stay in his room and be lazy or sleep more afterwards?
