Parashooting

Next thing I remember, I'm on a helicopter, with a backpack-like thing strapped to me. There are straps going between my thighs, securing me to the backpack but all I can think of is remembering how to breathe.

Im wearing a black jumpsuit paired with huge goggles. I just know I look ridiculous but Luke and the Lady, Lauren, are also wearing the same thing.

I cant think clearly as my heart pounds and all I can do is stare at the ground which was nowhere close to us.

Luke was saying something but I cant hear. The helicopter is too loud. I realize that his hand is tightly entangled in mine.

The petite lady whom I dislike, Lauren, is standing beside us. Moments before, she had led both of us to the helicopter door, and told us we were to pull at the backpack in order for our parachutes to open.

I didn't know what was more distracting; how intimidating the fall looked, or how she was looking at Luke.

"Are you guys ready?" She asks, a smirk on her face. "Don't be scared Aubrielle, its not a big fall." She says.

When had we gotten to first name bases?

I look at Luke and gulp harshly. His eyes are wide but he nods in reassurance and gives my hand a squeeze.

"Don't let go until the last minute." He says. His pupils are dilated, making the green of his eyes disappear almost completely. "We're ready."

We both look at the large extent of grassland before us and I wonder if his heart is beating as fast as mine.

"You'll jump on my count." Says the Lady.

Luke nods but all I can do is stare.

He backs us up a little as she starts counting. "1........2....."

I just hope I don't fall hard.

".......3!" She shouts over the helicopter noise.

Luke pulls me forward towards the opening of the copter and Shout as we jump, stomach first, whilst holding hands.

We get pulled sideways towards the direction of the wind and for the briefest of seconds, my heart stops.

All I hear is the rearing of the wind and all I can feel is my stomach exploding into a billion butterflies.

I manage to fully open my eyes and i'm amazed at how small everything looks from
All this distance.

Behind me, I can hear Lauren shouting instructions at us on how to spread our arms and legs.

My face hurts  from smiling voluntarily but also, the wind was forcing my cheeks to gather up at the sides.

I look over at Luke, to find him closing his eyes shut tightly. "Luke!" I shout.

"What?" He shouts. I now notice how harshly he is gripping onto my hand, almost too painfully.

"Open your eyes. Your missing everything." I rush. "Its amazing."

He shakes his head. What was happening? "Luke, whats wrong?" I ask, trying to make my voice be heard over the rushing wind.
