I stop breathing, there was silence on both side of the phone.
"Miss are you there?" David asked in a a very concerned voice. "Ah...ah yes sorry David I am" I told him struggling to get the words out, my mouth is dry and head spinning I have no idea what is happening.
"Miss would it be possible for you to come here, it's very difficult talking over the phone. " he ask me very politely. "Yes David I will leave now, I should be there in 2 hours." I tell him while getting of the couch I grabbed my keys and got Rosie's leash.
"Thank you miss see you soon" he tells me and ends the call. While grabbing everything I text Riley to tell her what's happening and that we should reschedule. Getting in the car with Rosie I put the heat up a bit seeing that she's shivering.
I have no word to describe how I'm feeling what could have happened to them, if it's serious what will I do they are my only family I have left. It bothers me because I spoke to them two days ago and they were fine, everything was fine.
The drive is long and feels like it's never going to stop. Rosie is fast asleep on the passenger seat, she looks so peaceful.
I finally get there after a 2 hour drive stopping in front of my grandparents building. I take Rosie under my arm and head inside. My grandparents flat was on the ground floor so I went straight to their neighbor (David) and knocked on his door.
After a few minutes the door cracked open slowly revealing a man that might be in his late 30's. "David? " I asked while putting Rosie down on the ground. "Yes, thanks for coming miss Walker, come on in." He said opening the door more for me to enter. "Call me Paisley" I told him moving to the living room.
"Alright would you like something to drink Paisley?" He asked me closing the door and walking towards the living room. "No thank you David I'm fine, would you mind telling me what happened? " I asked him sitting down and picking Rosie up on my lap.
He takes a hesitating seat across from me, now I'm concerned. "Well miss.... I mean Paisley this morning I woke up and like every other morning I go outside and have coffee with your grandparents. Every morning the same time, but this morning I went outside and they weren't sitting outside like always. So I went to knock on their door but there was no response." He says trying to hide away his shaking hands."So I then phone their landline but there was no answer, I got worried and phoned the police." he paused chewing on his nails. "when the police arrived they broke the door open and started searching inside, they finally reached the main bedroom and then..." he said shaking his head.
"and then what?" I asked him reaching forward to grab his hand. "they found them in the bed... miss they passed away during the night." he said looking at me with sympathy. My world stopped there and then, how, why is this happening. I put Rosie down, thanked David for telling me and went straight to their apartment. Opening the door the smell brought back so many memories, childhood memories that I had with them and my parents. Every Christmas and Easter, birthdays and just random Sunday afternoons having tea and telling stories. I felt my eyes starting to tear up as I walk through the apartment thinking back to everything.
What do I do now?
